Parts of Vatican City are pretty open - you can enter the place in front of St. Peter's Dome without any checks at all. It looks like any other place in Rome, but it is part of Vatican City. It would be possible there for a prostitute to solicit visitors.
Other parts of Vatican City are difficult to get into. You either have to be a priest or you need a special permit stating that you work there. I doubt a prostitute would get such permit!
@Kate W - Afghanistan has plenty of hookers, most of them widows with children from the long years of war. It is practically the only way for an uneducated woman to make any money, since it is not socially acceptable for a woman to work except as a housewife, teacher, nurse or office clerk.
And while the penality for intercourse outside of marriage is death in Saudi-Arabia, there are women there who are forced into prostitute-like arrangements. It mostly happens to women from the Philippines who come over as house-maids only to find that significant part of their job is to serve the adult men of the family in a sexual manner.

I would think that the Vatican City does not have any hookers. Isn't it pretty much just priests, cardinals, and the pope that lives there? I didn't think there were any actual normal residences there... but I've never been so I'm not sure. I suppose a hooker could wander over there, but if she doesn't live there I don't think that technically counts.
What about a really strict Islamic country... like Saudi Arabia? Or Afghanistan. I would think it would be dangerous times 100 to be a hooker in a place like that, thus reducing the likelyhood that there are any.

I'm a European and I recently read that prostitution is illegal in Romania, which I couldn't believe, as they have street hookers all around. But it seems to be true.
The Vatican state, on the other hand, is surrounded by Rome, the Italian capital. Now, what does a decent tourist do in Rome? Yea, right.

As far as Vatican City. I would imagine that most prostitutes would stay out and instead sell their "wares" in Rome where the tourists are staying anyways.
I also imagine that the Vatican police force would be pretty strict about keeping them out.
P.S. Yes Vatican City actually does have a jail, although it is rarely used.

My job takes me all over the world. I know there are hookers everywhere. Saudi Arabia has stiff penalties for prostitution (no pun intended). I've met and talked with hookers in Egypt (but never did anything more than talk), but don't know how to find them in Saudi. Most Saudi men who feel the need to drink or indulge their sexual fantasies outside of marriage (there are quite a few) go to the UAE, Qatar, or Europe.

I would suggest that it is such a small area the working women do not go there. By the way. "Prostitute" is derived from a Latin phrase meaning under the arches. Women would loiter under the arches of the aqueduct looking for work. Shady and out of the rain.

Prostitutes are everywhere, legal or illegal, strict or linent. Everyone wants sex and there are always people willing to give it to them for a price.

It's the world's oldest "profession". So yes, I would assume that it exists everywhere.
