Satellite dish, 18 month contract, if you cancel you pay 18 dollars a month. ADT three year contract, if you cancel you pay 14 dolllars a month. Earthlink, 1 year contract if you cancel before you pay 30 dollars. What the heck is going on? Years ago you didn't want service any longer, then you cancelled and that was it. This is just bull#### no sense. The sad thing is that no contract no service, and I really need all these services. I guess they take advantage of the fact people need them. What can be done to go back as before?

It's because they are subsidizing the cost of equipment. Did the actual satellite dish, box and installation come free, or did you pay for both? Did you purchase and install your own alarm system, or was it free or substantially discounted too?

The reason they require a contract is to cover the cost of the hardware and installation. It's only logical.

You can avoid these and other contracts, by purchasing and installing the hardware yourself, then sign up month to month for the service. Same for cell phones.

I agree. We need to file a class action suit on behalf of all the users for price gouging. They all use boilerplate forms with the same crap and the citizens have no other options. We should sue them for anti-trust violations.

Who's with me?!

Seriously. I think it's wrong. They are in a superior position and it's unfair to consumers.
