If evolution is an ongoing process affecting all species, perhaps we were not the first to evolve to the stage of being able to form complex civilizatons. If that is so, perhaps there are myths having to do with another advanced species not related to ours.

Yes, there are plenty of them in myths and folklore. In classical mythology Titans existed before the Gods. In fact it was supposed to have been a God who brought fire and thereby civilization to human beings. Also there were many non-human intelligent beings like the Centaurs, Maenads, Nymphs, Satyrs etc. although they were not always depicted as being interested in "civilized" ideas as species an individual centaur was supposed to have been renowned as a great philosopher.

In other Cultures there were the Djinn, who were supposed to have pre-existed mankind, were very intelligent and while some were inimical to man and practised religions and sciences unknown to humans a few were supposed to be very devout followers of the Qumran.

Even in the Christian bible there was mention of the Nephelim - who were supposed to be a race of giants.

The folklore of many cultures include the idea that at some point in the past animals spoke a common language with humans - and were our equals.

There are many stories of giants ogres and trolls and faery folk that imply they were sort of of like people, since they lived by rules and had a code of behaviour that while different or even alien from that of humans... was nevertheless the product of cultures that were ancient and complex and existed from before our time.

Monkeys? Also, they have found proof of living things on other planets, so they must have evolved from something right? Pretty much, I think in some way or another everything has evolved and keeps evolving.

Well, first off there's no evidence to show there were past non-human civilizations on Earth.

Doesn't mean it isn't possible though.
