I can't agree with the notion that his numbers should be erased. reguardless of speculation, and what seems to be overwhelming evidence against him, the fact of the matter is he has NEVER failed a steroid test or publically admitted to knowingly using a banned substance. If you erase his numbers, then your going to have to erase Jason Giambi, Jose Canseco, and Rafael Palmiero from the record books. Then where does it stop, do we start wiping out nobodies like Jason Grimsley and David Segui? Does the NFL wipe Shawne Merriman and Rodney Harrison from their books? All the previously mentioned players have either failed a performance enhancing drug test, or have admitted to the use of steroids, HGH or both, something Bonds has yet to do. Things will get way to messy if you start removing names from the record books or adding asteriks to players stats. As a baseball fan, i do admire what Bonds has accomplished, but i personally look forward to the day that someone else takes over the all time homerun crown, because it is the greatest individual record in sports and it shouldn't be marred in controversy, which it will unfortunatley be as long as Bonds name is next to it.

A completely worthless bit of drivel from that mediot, but hey, they know they gotta write this sort of sensationalist crap for the readers, especially the sort that the NY Post attracts.
MLB will not modify the stats of Bonds or anyone else. The ONLY conditions under which this has ever been done is clerical error or oversight. This idiotic (and woefully common) rant of "delete the records!" serves a political agenda, and is a disservice to the game and its history. The stats are, basically, a record of what happened.
But this garbage gets written anyway, because it's easier than thinking.

Erasing records is pretty unprecidented. But, you have NCAA championships taken away for cheating (Bush anyone), you have Olympic Athletes getting their medals taken away (ever hear of a certain female runner who just admitted to it), you have cyclists getting their "yellow jersy" snatched from them. So, it wouldn't be 'unprecedented" to have some type of "de-crowning" of Mr Bonds. Just how, not sure. Asterik, banning (pete rose anyone?), etc.
As for his court appearance, the man was indicted by the Feds. The Fed's HATE being lied too. Martha Stewart anyone? Michael Vick anyone? Those two cases was as much if not MORE about the lies than the 'crime'. Don't freaking lie to the Feds. Or they go after you with both guns blazing. Jail time? Sure, why the heck not??? This isn't just about cheating in a sport anymore. Barry made sure of that if they truly can convict when he lied to them. I absolutly think that Barry did it. No question in my mind and screw the 'innocent until proven guilty crowd". The issue is whether or not they can get a conviction. OJ anyone?

I dont think that jail should be an option. Like the article said, jail is for rapists, murderers, and so on. No one should go to jail for cheating.
Also, like the article said again, no one in the world other than baseball fans care about this case. Cheating isn't worth jail time, but it is worth a record to be erased, and being banned.
It's like a game of monopoly, you don't send someone to jail cheating at a game of monopoly. Only the people playing monopoly care about it.
If you want my opinion, I'd say that jail time is not the right thing to do, but erasing his record, maybe even ending his career right as it is will be good enough. Have his life forgotten in baseball and all of sports.

I think that it's totally wrong that only one person is getting indicted and accused for many player's crimes..... Does the sports writer have a good reason for erasing someone's records? NO! What about players that have committed worse crimes? They still hold their "records" and their stats are still listed in books without asterisks and notations.....
Maybe he's just jealous that he's only a sportswriter and does not have the women and wealth that Barry has..... Since he probably did lie to the grand jury or took steroids, what proof do they have that the steroids ever enhanced his performance? If that was the case, even the most mediocre player that took steroids would have banner seasons where the fans would scratch our heads and fall over in shock!

He should go to jail if he is found guilty of lying to the grand jury just as any of us would if we would have done the same thing. All of his records should stay for the very simple reason that you can't erase history. Baseball fans are smart enough to make up their own minds about Bonds and others that may have used banned drugs.

No they could desire to not placed an astersik next to his call. not something could be taken away the two. he's a huge participant and not stupid. there remains no data that he used steroids. Its basically the media blowing issues up like they continuously do. The media is stupid not Barry. till he's shown in charge, his stats could nonetheless stand and every physique could provide the guy a destroy jesus, not one of the different gamers who have been got here across in charge of steroids are taken care of like Barry.

No, erasing the records is not enough. He deserves jail time because he perjured himself in sworn testimony.
If you lie under oath you need to serve time.
When people do not fear being punished for giving false testimony then the courts are going to lose a lot of their ability to trust statements.
The public demands something be done about the records, but that is totally separate from the perjury.

Yes I do. Barry Bonds is a cheater who has ruined the integrity of baseball. Barry does not hold the record, without steriods, he would have a few hundred less, and that is unfair to the great players who used hardwork and determination. He sets a terrible example for kids also.

I dont think that bonds' records should be erased. If I took steroids, I wouldn't be able to blast 750+ homers in my career. It takes real talent to do that with or without steroids. I think a ban from baseball is good enough to teach someone a lesson
