I go all out for my closest friends and family I even surreptitiously survey (from other people) what gifts my loved ones want, or what things they know are wished for. Last year, my daughter wanted a Nokia N series, but I played a trick on her. I bought the phone, but had it giftwrapped at Toy Kingdom, after buying a cheap toy (they wrapped the phone instead of the toy). Gave the gift to my daughter, with the wrapped gift inside a toy kingdom bag (for added concealment). Naturally, she dis not even open the gift as she went to sleep. Because she wanted a phone. So I woke her up and insisted that she open the gift. She was so happy I got a big hug and a kiss.
For others, I just order cakes from Becky's Kitchen - - - nice to give since the goods ar so beautifully wrapped as Christmas present, and the food quality is great.

The cost of a gift do not count whenever I give one to a friend. It may be cheap or expensive, it does not matter as long as I know that my friend will like it. I always consider my friends' tastes, what they like and how they would appreciate the gifts I would give them. An advice one of my friends gave me a long time ago serves as my guideline: buy things that you yourself would like to have and you can never go wrong with your choice of a gift. And that is what I always do.

Oh quite complicated!
I don't go for cheap items as I believe the gift you will give represent yourself. I always give branded items like it is for my use because I don't give gifts very often and I only choose to whom I will give. For me, just because you are my friend it does't mean I will always give gifts to you. Also, better to give nothing than to give cheap items.
As per my experience, people value more the gift when they found out the brand and it's cost in the market.
I normally shop to the max during the sale season. I shop for myself, for hubby (or exbf), then start to think of the nearest celebration and buy items intended for gifts in the same shop where I normally purchase my clothes. I used to be a "Guess" addict but now I love "Next" and "Marks & Spencer" too.

I'm a very practical person but when it comes to gifts I make sure that they will enjoy it. I try to look for the things that they really like or need. For the price.. it's not really important either it's a bit expensive or so-so but not cheap... and I always shop when I can get a discount or bargains. <*-*>

If you have not noticed, I am a Grouch.
I am not a social person. I don't have friends. Except probably Shirley and the other regulars at YAP. And I can't give them gifts because they might panic and call the Sanitation Department, to disinfect whatever it is !!!

I do more for friends than buying them gifts. I've given them the best I can - my friendship.

it depends on who i am giving it to.
for my closest friends and my loved ones, i go all out. for mere acquaintances, i give them things that are not too expensive but practical & useful.
i also take into consideration the quality of course as well as the likes & dislikes of the receiver. i like to give gifts that fit their preferences & personality.

First, I check on the quality of the item then the price should be reasonable and affordable.

I'm inbetween. I find what would probably make my friends happy but I will still consider the prices.
