There are reasons both for and against government-sponsored health insurance. The rich people don't want to pay insurance for everyone else, which I think you can understand. And even the middle class wants to have choices in their health insurance.
People also worry that the health care available in this country will drop drastically in quality. Do you really want the politicians deciding what care you should get? I don't want them involved!
It's bad enough when it's an insurance company, but at least you can shop around for insurance companies with better policies.
If your taxes were going to cover your health insurance, then by all fairness, your taxes would have to increase to cover it -- which means they would go up by whatever you're currently paying an insurance company.
Someone has to pay for the actual health care, after all. It's not going to be free. The money has to come from somewhere.

RE :Why isnt health insurance free.. (taken out of taxes)? like other countries?
with all the taxes taken out ud think that would be the most important thing... i presume its because it would hurt companies that sell insurance in some kind of way... but im not sure... can any explain to me why? will it ever change? i think of all the things our taxes pay for ... it should at least pay for health insurance ...
Update: to "mistalin" or wutever ur username... there is no need to insult.. this is a question... u ask a question to gain knowledge..... i see now that there are alot of cons from having healthcare under the government now... u can only gain knowledge if u ask...
all good answers guys.... except 1..

A lot of people will blame the companies but in all actuallity it would cause a big mess in America. Everyone wants to have health insurance provided through the government but when if this happens our tax rates would sky rocket and people would have less take home pay to go out and shop, this would harm the economy and put the American people into shock. Further more looking at the governments handling of Social Security, Medicare, Welfare, The VA, etc... I find it hard to believe that anyone in their rightminds would want to hand another aspect of our lives over to the government

If you waited for government supplied health coverage, while you were in need of a serious procedure you would most likely die while you wait for paperwork to process. Health insurance should be kept free market. It would keep the insurance companies to uphold a certain standard. what if your health coverage was from the government. they would use that reason to increase taxes and when you didn't get the treatment you were guaranteed, what are you going to be able to do about it?

Free is not really free.
Our Neighbors to our immediate North have Government provided Health Insuracne and they have a long wait just to see their PCP for routine exams. Surgeries? forget it the list is way to long and many come to our Country for procedures they would have to wait weeks or months for and they could die while waiting.
While our Health Care system is far from perfect, it is The Best in the World.
Disclaimer: I am employed full time and I have insuracne through my employer in which we both share the cost with the company paying the largest portion. However, this year, our portion went up because the company's cost went up. The cost of health care rose across the board to pay for all of the 'Free' care given to those who can not pay and use ER's for their health care.
ER's must treat anyone regardless of their ability to pay. If you can not pay, the ER/Hospital eats the cost and passes the cost on to folks who can pay in the hike in services.

go call social security, the IRS or any gov't agency for that matter and see if you want them handling your healthcare. If you want that, go to the UK, canada or france and wait months for simple things. Talk to a citizen of those countries. I have and most say its horrible. Great if you are really sick but lousy if you are not. We need less gov't, not more.
Ever look at someones teeth from england?
Guesse where the first place people come from all the countries with "gov't free healthcare" go to get cancer or other specialized care? right here to the US. Why? Becuase it is the best.
If a person has no healthcare they either a) need to get another job or B) they should have paid better attention at school. Neither is my problem.

We are a capitalist country. We work to pay for our health services. Socialist countries have socialized medicine which, incidentally, never works. Witness the hoards of people who come across the Canadian border to get access to American healthcare.

I agree. It's something this country should be ashamed of. I have no insurance and it scares me. I've lived in countries with socialized medicine and what we hear about overcrowding, long waits and poor care is just not true. At least not where I was (northern Europe). Basic health care should not be a luxury.

Our government can't even provide adequate health care for Veteran's. I certainly don't want them trying to provide it for me.
What I'd like instead is common sense legislation aimed at keeping healthcare affordable and eliminating fraud from the health care system.
