The worst thing for me is my friend that lives in the south and his bragging about it being near 80 degrees while I am dealing with freezing rain, power outages, below zero windchills, and blizzard conditions and he is 'playing' on the beach* Give me a break!!! lol

Sorry for being trite, but: 1. Take the advice of every answer; there's great information there. 2. If you're at home when this happens, stay there! Only travel in an emergency. 3. If at work, use public transportation. Here where I live, our city bus system is considered essential, just like police and fire. [the only place that I know of that has this policy]. You vehicle will be safe, you'll be less stressed, and you'll save some money in the process.

It would have to be PEOPLE. Road conditions is one thing; driving like a maniac is another. It seems that the worse the road conditions, the worse people drive, pulling out in front of people (2 of them today were school buses!), tail-gating and all the rest.
Most people here don't even put any Christmas decorations outside at all;
Hot or cold, it is always a good idea to run the motor for a few minutes before driving.

The worst thing about the snowy icy winter season is the long wait until spring gets here. =)

It's a difficult choice, really! Having to get a head-start is a rough deal, esp. in winter when you tend to sleep longer enjoying the warmth and comfort of the bed inside your home!

I gotta totally agree with you on both of those. I hate scraping the ice off of my car and I can't stand those tacky Xmas decorations crammed into a little space
