The 'scientific name' (aka 'Latin name') is made up of two terms: the genus (first word, capitalized) and the species (second word, not capitalized). So, the scientific name of a certain hot springs bacterium (to pick an organism at random) is Thermus aquaticus. The genus is Thermus, and our particular member of that genus is named aquaticus. A White Oak tree is Quercus alba, but while all the other kinds of oak are also in the genus Quercus, each has a different specific name. It's kind of like you and your family; you may all have the same last name, but you all have different first names - each of you is a different person, while each species is different from the other species in a particular genus.
Physiological adaptation, eh? Well, you would want to know what 'physiological' means, and then think about what the adaptation would be for.
