...the "Guinea Pg" series, in my opinion, is far and above, the most grotesque and disturbing of the two, not just for the appalling imagery it presents, but also the backstory of how the series came to be, and the ensuing contraversy it has wrought. The series has been repeatedly banned in it's native Japan, due to a disturbing criminal element, whereby murders have been committed, which reportedly emulate the psychopathic activity and imagery in the film series (...in the midst of one of it's bannings, which I wasn't aware of in at the time, I remember trying to inquire about and purchase the notorious and infamous film series from a Japanese video shop in Yokosuka; a clerk, with very broken English, angrily escorted me from the store...)

..."Cannibal Holocaust", despite some of the most disturbing, horrific and grotesque imagery set to celluloid, is still deeply entrenched and rooted in the genre sense of expedition, discovery and adventure, making the film much more compelling...

Honestly, the most disturbing film I've ever seen is Makavejev's surrealistic masterpiece "Sweet Movie."

Now, I've seen only Cannibal Holocaust (and Peter Jackson's "Brain-dead" and Gordon's "Re-Animator" and Pasolini's "Salo"...) but there's something beyond disturbing witnessing a myriad of our world's most absurd fetishes being played out. The psychology is so profound, and the film ulterior motive is so controversially brilliant that...you...just...can't...look...away.

Then again, I've always felt the most disturbing movies juxtapose seemingly polar elements: violence and sexuality (Cronenberg); violence and happiness (Pasolini), etc.

Btw, some stimulating readings:
