Sometimes i see more empathy for animals than i do for our fellow human beings. I care about animals and believe they should not be mistreated but sometimes detect more compassion for a racoon than I do for the welfare of people in our society who need special help. Please explain.

chalice: i feel very sorry for you that you connect more with animals than with human being. Animals can impress me more when they fight and die for their country, feed the hungry, find a cure for cancer, show real heart felt pain when a love one dies. Sure humans can be vicious and danger but so can a lion, or chimp who bites your arm off. Please seek help lady.

You know what folks people can hurt you as many of you attest but they also attempt to cure cancer, fight for our country, police our street, fight our fires and grow food for you and your animals. When an animal learns to fly a plane or drive a car i will be impressed.

tweed bundy: I am sorry I stumbled on this forum and it is shocking the answers i am receiving. Sure there is a place for animals but I do not hold them with the same esteem and affection as a human being. It appears to me that the human race has soured you on the very human being that you are. People can be hurtful and I learned that as a combat soldier in Viet Nam drafted in 68 101 Airborne infantry. I would place more feeling for starving children in the world and those with terminal diseases and quit hating the human race.

I love animals and I get along with them better than most people, however I do not think animals are equal to humans. People who think animals are higher or equal than their fellow humans have mental problems and should get professional help.

Of course people are a very important part of society, and they are able to help themselves GENERALLY. There are, however, exceptions. Animals cannot do all that much if they are being mistreated. They are helpless and they need love. I am willing to be critisized for saying this, but I think animals are of equal importance to humans. And no, I do not have mental problems. I love animals and could not live without them. I cannot imagine why people are cruel to them. I can see from your point of view as well as from others and I respect our differences in opinion.

If you love someone, you have to respect their feelings. Animals have the ability to feel fear, pain, suffering, sadness, etc. If you eat meat, you re pretty much agreeing to those negative feelings that the animal has to endure before and while getting killed. This is not love. Meat eaters who call themselves true animal lovers obviously don t know the true meaning of love. There is more to love than just simply showing emotional attachment. And also, we don t even need meat to survive so why eat it?

This one does.

On the whole, animals are a lot easier to love than people. They have so many lovable qualities, and none of the qualities that make humans so lousy.

Obviously I care more about my own family and friends than animals, but I'd rather care for animals and lobby for their rights than I would human's. I'm a vet nurse and I spend more time dealing with people than I do the actual animals - trust me, the animals are easier to like, even the ones that bite.

People in our society who are on welfare or on special needs programs have programs that are in place to help them, which are usually funded by tax payers and the federal government.

The animal lovers have more empathy for animals, as they cannot care for themselves, nor have they been asked to be put in certain situations.

Illegal aliens and immigrants had a choice. They chose to come to our country, and now our Government is assisting them. Dogs that are in puppy mills had no choice in the matter. They were put there for someone elses profit and forced to live in deplorable conditions.

So, I'll spend my own hard earned $$ to help an animal in need, as the Gov't is already taking my hard earned $$ and putting it in these special programs.

I think I love animals more than people, people can be manipulative, hateful, and deceitful, and you dont see our pets acting like that. Dont get me wrong I loveeeeeeeeee my family and my friends but I seem to have more heart for animals. I would probably help a homeless animal before a human. LOL

Many animal lovers have more love and compassion for animals than they have for humans, yes. Often the reason for this is that people can be manipulative, spiteful, hateful, and deceitful, none of these traits are possessed by animals. Animals are often times seen as more pure and simple than people, and those who have repeatedly been hurt by others tend to gravitate towards animals for love and comfort. Also animals are not to blame for their environment and situations whereas people typically create the situations they find themselves in.

I feel more for animals than I do for humans because animals are helpless whereas a human being has choices. When it comes to my cat or a dear family member or friend, I will chose the family and friends.

Humans are animals too, remember.

One animal species is not comparable to another species. We can't say that dolphins are better than dogs because they AREN'T the same. They have different purposes.

Every animal gives something to this world. Maybe animals can't fly planes or cure cancer but many of them we couldn't live without. You said that humans are the ones that are responsible for growing food, but we aren't. We depend on other animals to help us. Ladybugs, birds, earthworms, and bees. Bees are so little and so many, but what would we do without them! We'd have a serious food shortage!
Even the tiny microscopic mites that eat the dead skin cells off of your arm have a purpose.

To love one species over another is selfish.
Remember that WE are animals too, just smarter animals.
