one of my friends freaks out and starts panicking when shes under stress/pressure/has no control of a situation. She'll even start crying when things arent going her way e.g. once we drove to someone's house in the suburbs and we got lost and could not find our way to the highway for a good hour (even tho we stopped a few times @ gas stations to ask for directions)and after panicking she stopped in the middle of the street (intersection) (she was driving) and put her head out the window and started screaming for help and waving her arms to try to get someone to stop and help us. she was hysterical and made it seem like we're in a life-death situation. after that she never apologized or explained herself, she just said she was "scared". (it was the suburbs and there was no sign of danger anywhere). another time she started crying cuz she thought she'd fail a math test (even tho she always gets A's) even tho she studied all day. and yest. she started panicking cuz she had a report due

sounds like she has a serious anxiety problem. People with anxiety can seem nutty at times.

It sounds more like an anxiety disorder of some type. Or it could just be that she doesn't deal with stress too well and overreacts to mundane situations! The fact that she gets straight A's has to do with fear of failure (most kids who hold themselves up to that standard are more concerned than they should be about such issues, which is what helps them continue to do well). So it only makes sense that, as illogical as it may seem, that she is afraid of literal failure, even though precedent has shown that such occurences are rare for her. As for the getting lost thing, well, she probably was getting overwhelmed with the fear of getting lost that she had a panic attack of some sort; or just started to act irrationally. I am not sure if there is any given thing that is wrong with her, but, some people just react strangely to things. She is one of them.

Doesn't sound like a personality disorder. An anxiety disorder perhaps.
