Because in any type of research it is important to get ethical approval to ensure that participants are allowed certain rights eg right to withdrawal and to ensure they finish the experiment in the same state as when they began ie with no physical or any form of harm inflicted upon them.

So it is EXTREMELY important!

whether overt or covert, research data must always be obtained in an ethical manner - issues such as legality, safety and validity (plagiarism and so on) always play a factor.
