I think bikinikaw is referring to the old flat head 6 when he said industrial engines. They were used in cars, trucks, cement trucks and all sorts of jobs. The one you are referring to is the slant 6 that came out at the end of the 50's and took their place. The engine was designed this way so as ( and I am not making this up) the intake could have longer runs to the cylinders in the center of the motor. Most 6 cylinders had a straight manifold down the side of the motor with the carburetor in the center. This gave plenty of fuel to the middle cylinders, but was leaned out some what by the time it got to the end cylinders so they weren't producing as much H.P. Chrysler gave more room for a much bigger manifold by leaning the motor to the right. This is the reason and the only reason the slant six came out this way. It was I think 170 cubic inch and later on, up to it's demise, a 225 which was known as a deuce and a quarter. It was a formidable motor until Chrysler gutted it trying to conform with Federal emission standards. It was replaced in the early 80's with the225 c.i. v 6. Which was a 318 v8 casted without the 2 middle cylinders. I've owned both the flat heads and the slant 6 and I liked the flat head better.

The best was the two and a quarter, couldn't kill them, but Chrysler also built a 170 for a few years, but I can't tell you what years.
