Well, I know Queen Victoria didn't actually smoke it, but she used tincture of marijuana to ease her period pains.
And I know it's often said but I will say it again. In the 1960s I smoked massive amounts of dope, then stopped. Now I see footage of young people out at weekends having far too much to drink, getting violent, etc etc. That never happened to us. We had odd conversations, but we slept well, had great sex, felt gentle towards mankind... I remember reading The Science of Art and Being to two fellow smokers and it captivated all of us.
Downside to all that was that it made me so LAZY. When I stopped I got on with all kinds of things. I haven't smoked dope since those days, and I have a BA, an MA, and a PhD, and I have worked my butt off to bring up children.
I know people at work still smoke it, and that it's easy to get hold of, but it's not for me anymore, although I do not disapprove of it at all.

I think cannabis should be legalised. It's just random history that makes cannabis illegal while cigarettes and alcohol are legal.
I actually think all drugs should be legalised and sold in really boring packages, with no advertising allowed, and kids should be fully educated about the pros and cons, effects and side-effects, of all drugs so they can make informed choices and not get drawn into experimentation by peer pressure and the thrill of doing something illegal.

Cannabis has been used in hospitals for since before the second world war. It is regularly used now in clinical trials more prominantly with multiple sclerosis patients. It is a relaxant and good pain relief if used properly. It should be legalised, this would also be a start to getting rid of dealers who doctor it to make people want something stronger and more addictive. They are parasites thriving on the misery they create.

Out of the 28 answers so far there are a few sensible ones, especially Paul C and Michael W. There are also the usual crop of idiots, who if it wasn't for free speech I'd try to get them removed.
I'm a recovered alcoholic, and spent three months in re-hab last year, like Paul C I've seen what it can do, not just theorised about it.
The re-hab centre, appart from alcoholics had people who were addicted to cannabis, cocaine, meth, crack, LSD, barbituates, amphetamines, benzos, ecstacy and others I have never heard of.
During my treatment there I heard all thair life stories, without exception THEY ALL HAD STARTED ON CANNABIS.

I know a few that have and do smoke it, it don't seem to do them any harm. I was told that if you smoke it all the time is gives you some sort of mental problems. I tried it once and had 2 puffs it was one of the worst experiences I've had, the room was spinning, I thought I was going to be sick and a dry mouth, it was worse than the 1st time I got drunk at 15 on barley wine, so for me it was never again and I never touched it again. I was 42 at the time.

this is a drug and with all drugs it is harmful. The only reason that it is illegal is because it is easily grown therefore the government are unable to tax it. Nicotine on the other hand is a highly addictive drug and causes more harm but it is produced by the western world and makes a lot of money for the government and capitalists of this world

I`v smoked it & to be honest it turns you into a lazy person ( it is a relaxing drug) if you have to depend on it to get through the day then it becomes a problem the same as alcohol, as for ciggies they are the biggest killers so where do you draw the line, it all boils down to personal choice.we cant judge people for liking their pleasures in life even if their pleasure is harmfull to their OWN health...life is about personal choice.

Crap really. Stopped smoking it now. I only used to have it on top of drink anyway as it was the only way I could feel it and now I don't have it at all. Nowhere near as bad as the other drugs, I just got bored and stopped smoking it straight away so it's hardly addictive. Made me fall asleep more than anything. Don't like fags either they taste like sh*t. So I don't smoke anything now. :-)

Well, I used it for about 40 years, then lost interest, just like that. Then again I've seen a lot of people lose the plot through using it too.
