For me it is the Little Mermaid.
I loved it a lot the first time I saw it because to me it was pretty and magic and I got lost in in.
As I grew older I realised the magic was in the making of it first - because if Disney hadn't made that at the time he did, and if it wasn't as successful as it was, then we may not have had the chance to watch more of his great animated works.
Older still, I realised The Little Mermaid was the DREAM all girls have - to be beautiful, to be loved and to have that, someone special to love her and do everything possible for her - no matter what.
Older again - realised that the Little Mermaid epitomised the joy of loving and living and fighting for what you want and being prepared to give it all up for the one you love - it showed a true unconditional love.
And it gave us all the one thing we mortals want more than anything else, a true fairytale happy ending.

My Favorite 2:
Alice in Wonderland (1951)
and The Black Cauldron (1985
both predate your period, which I feel was a very repedative cycle, I'd put them in this order of preference:
1)Aladdin (1992)
2)The Little Mermaid (1989)
3)Fantasia 2000 (1999)
4)Beauty and the Beast (1991)
5)The Lion King (1994)
6)The Rescuers Down Under (1990)
7)Tarzan (1999)
The others, Pocahontas (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), and Hercules (1997) varied to greatly from the original sources, were nothless okay. I put them in oder of my preference as well, but truly don't prefer them to other version.
Some of the sequels have been suprisingly good, others were awful.
Mulan (1998) I haven't seen in it's entirety.
Nightmare before Christmas rocked, but was a touchstone movie, just like who framed Roger Rabbit. Tim Burton was a Disney animator who worked on the Black Cauldron.

OMG! This is soooo hard, my four favorite Disney films are in those years- Little Mermaid, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Alladin....
I would have to say, though, that my favorite movie during those years would be Beauty and the Beast, because i saw it on Broadway (it was there for 13 yrs.- obviously it's amazing) and it was awsome.... also if you notice the three main princesses are Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Belle... yeah Belle... and she was in 1989-1999 (unlike the other 2)... i love them all, but Beauty and the Beast is pretty ammmazing...... oh an i almost forgot... Beauty and the Beast was the only animated film in history to be nominated Best Picture at the Acdamey Awards (aka Oscars)....

Beauty and the Beast. It had the best songs, the best story, and the best animation. Really, go back and watch it, the animation is incredible. Also the characters were great, Belle is also the tops among all the Disney "princesses"
There is definitely a reason why it is the only animated film to be nominated for Best Picture. (Even tho I think the Acadamey Awards are crap in general)

Although I have many favorites, I'm going to pull for Aladdin. For starters, its got a great story line. Its got love, hate, lust, and lessons. It brings in the magical world of the Genie (who has many funny quips throughout the movie), and includes a princess (like most of the classic Disney movies do). The moral of the story is also good- even though we think that the grass looks greener on the other side we should be happy with who we are as Aladdin finds out after Jasmine realizes his true identity. Like all classics, its got a great villain- the kind you love to hate. As a little girl you always wished you could have a pet tiger to be sweet like Jasmine, and Abu was just great. Last, but definitely not least, the musical score to the movie was amazing. Its hard not to find each of the songs catchy incredibly catchy... and more than likely you will find yourself singing along!!

The Little Mermaid. 1:Beautiful music. 2:A story every girl no matter her age can relate too 3:Cheers my up when I'm down. 4: I can watch it and not get sick of it 5:Disney put a lot of effort and care into making it 6:Gotta love the sea witch 7:Gotta love Prince Eric and Ariel-- what a cute couple! *: Even though I was pretty young when I saw it in the theater, it is one of the earliest films I remember watching-- That opening seen with the ship really stuck with me. I wanted the soundtrack cassette tape so badly and I actually got it for Christmas.

Lion King.
Great animation, great music, great plot and pathos, and it didn't center around a princess like all of the other Disney movies of the time.
