Thats an excellent question. Because whoever bought them from her must have been very stupid as there must have been lots of shells on the sea shore for them to pick up for free! She must have been an ex car salesman.

Due to the fact that transportation was limited, she had little money already and couldn't afford any, she thought, um sea shells come from the sea so I can get them right here and sell lthem right here to all the tourist who come to visit and I won't need to transport me or my product therefore leaving more profit to myself.
