like the non-academic issue is of a death in the family..i know we have to send in a certificate of death but how important will they look that up to. If we give them that copy, do you know if they will contact the hospital to confirm it..or what do they do (consider it as an important as to why we decide to drop)..plz i need to know how this works so i could make a decision if i think theyy would accept it (otherwise it would be a waste if i do it and they dont approve )i hope u got what i meant...

This can vary from one university to another, and even from one college to another within a university, but generally they don't make too much of an effort to confirm something like a death in the family. The exception might be if your grades were poor before, or if, upon contacting the professor, they find out that you hadn't done well in the class long before the death allegedly occurred. In other words, the policies exist to keep people from slithering out of a class without penalty any time they are doing poorly, and so they are unlikely to question you if you are normally an honest, good student, but they may if they have reason to doubt the veracity of your claim.

You should contact someone with the school adminstration. They will be able to tell you the exact procedure for the school you are attending.
