Well, i know i need at least one new tire for my car but i dont know how many i need exactly.
I am aware that there are 4 wheels on my car i just dont know which ones need replacing. I also dont know what type of tire i need. Its a lancer and its fairly small.
So if i walk in there in my short shorts and say "hi i need some new tires" are they likely to try and rip me off because i have no idea what the hell i need ??
What i want to know is, how much SHOULD it cost me, what kind of tire do i need and how long will they need my car for?

Last time i got my car serviced they put 2 new tires on the front and moved 2 of the old ones which were still good to the back.
Now i think i need new ones on the back. I think i have a slow leak in one of the back ones. I went and put air in them the other day and it was on 4PSI ?? dunno what that means but apparently they are supposed to be on 32. Then about a week later i thought "hey it looks low again" so i went back and it was back down to 4.... So thats how i came to the conclusion that i need new tires.

Try the short shorts .... generally you should replace tyres in 2s so the front and back have the same wear ...
.. it will say on the tire what size it is ... some numbers and a letter normally ..... find this size and look up the price of them on the internet .....
..... then just wear short shorts anyway cos I like that thought
x
edit: Tyres being low could be a problem with a valve, or a slow puncture ........ both of these can be fixed without replacing the tyre. The thing you need to check with regards to replacing them is the depth of the tread ..... most tyres will have a raised 'lump' a couple of millimetres across in the main groove on the tyre ..... if the tyre is worn down to the same level as this lump, it is time to replace them.
That is the size yes.
Back to short shorts now ....... x

OK, tires have width, height and size listed like 205-70-15 which is most likely your size. If you buy them at Discount Tire Co. they will run about $100.00 a tire depending on the name.
Brand names are Cooper, Goodyear, Firestone.. so for that price it should include mounting, balancing, a replacement warranty and be good for about 60,000 miles. I just bought 4 Cooper tires that size for my Caravan and it was $361.00 out the door, that price was without the replacement which I think was another $11.25 per tire. Hope this helps and best of luck , B. If you have a manual it should list the size you need.
I'm sorry my answer is from an American persective but I still hope it is helpful. If it keeps going flat it could be a nail or something or it may leak around the rim take some soapy water and spray it around the rim to see if it bubbles , also a penny is a 1 cent piece in the U.S.A.

the cheapest is to tell the guy you want one tire the cheapest one you have, the same size. that's it. that's all i can afford, Replace the worst one, Thats IT!!. so he shows you the price of the tire. fine. does that include mounting AND balancing? you ask. gteat,, get it done please.
fair example $60 tire(includes mount), $13 balance, $2 disposal,. tax, so if you under the$100 range, ok
you could ask fairly, dont you have anything cheaper?
He may say that your other tires are shot and you need all 4 and thats going to be about $333 whatefver. He may say that they never only do one tire. that they would need to replace the both up front. Is that really necessary?, you say. I only have about $80 dollars. but if you have the cash, get the two tires up front, front wheel drive, it will drive and handle bett3er.
if you have the cash, get four new tires. they're all the same size, weight, tread, etc. if thats good for you there usually is a special deal when you buy 4 tires. ask if there are any other discounts.
I just paid about 450 for 4 mount an balance and chrome stems incl.

Take a look at the tires. See if they are worn uneven and if the tread is gone. The legal tread minimum depth is 3/32nds of an inch.
Try and replace the tires in pairs. Say both fronts and both rears. The price of the tires will vary according to the quality of the tire that you purchase. It is a good idea to have the front end aligned when you get the tires. Also get new valve stems and have them balanced.
Look in the paper for prices and who is having a sale. The size of the tire will be listed on the sidewall of the existing tires. Just match them up with the new ones.
If you don't feel good about getting the tires by yourself, then take someone who is knowledgeable with you to assist you.
good luck.

All tyres sold in Australia have depth markers in the tread. All you need to do is find the depth markers (they are in the valleys of the tread) and when the tread of the tyre gets to to the marker depth it's time to buy new tyres. The depth marker is at 1.5 millimeters which is the minimum legal depth in Australia.
You can get a tube for the tyre that keeps going flat if the tread is still legal and there are no structural defects. That will cost you about $25.
Cheap tyres for your car start at about $60. Buy the best tyres you can afford, they are the only things keeping you on the black stuff.
175 is the tyre width
70 is the tyre profile
13 is the rim measurement

OK you have several questions so here goes.1 take a penny and insert it in the tread of your tires ( the top of Lincolns head down) if you can see the top of his head you need new tires.
legal tread depth is 2/32".
2. look at the side of your tire you will find the tire size ex. 215-75-15. write this down and call around to different tire shops in your area find the best deal and ask "does this include mount and balance"? go with the best price. Good luck.

Look at your tires. See the tread pattern? Stick a penny in the gap between the blocks of rubber, with Abe's head pointing into the gap. If his head is completely exposed (you can see all of it) then you need a new tire because it is worn so thin that would be dangerous in wet conditions.
The easiest answer on tires is to put new ones on that are the same as the ones you took off. Want to know what a reasonable price is for your tires? Put your car info into TireRack.com site and see how much they sell 'em for. Print that out and take it with you to local stores. My local stores usually price match (including shipping fee).

hhhm the shorts will guarantee a good deal, I never get good deals unless I wear my short shorts.
just because your tires are leaking is no reason to replace them, only if the grooves in the rubber are almost wore through.
a small leak can be fixed.
i just put tires on my Accord, they take a similar size to your car, they cost me about $50.00 each U.S., not sure how that compares to your dollars but should be easy enough ti find out.
You can spend more, but there is a point of dimishing returns, for instance a tire costing twice as much only lasts 1/2 longer.
They can do your tires while you wait, about 15 minutes each, any more and they are out joy riding.

I think if you play your cards right, you might be able to get some free tires. You are a girl. Girls tend to get a lot of free stuff. Oh, but make sure you get all 4. I don't think anyone should replace just 1 tire. That is one thing that will make your car dangerous. Hope this helped -Matt
