I acquired a lovely copper pot, and I want to use it in my living room to grow a houseplant. What steps do I need to take to ensure the best conditions? (I'm sortof a novice to all of this....)Any tips are appreciated :-)

agree with the pot-in-pot idea..... but... to avoid the inside pot sitting in water anyways, you need to elevate it..... a couple of those small sized bricks or other 'lifts' to give water a place to drain out of the inner pot TO... so that the roots of the innner pot are never sitting in water.....

I just put a plant that was in a pot already inside the copper pot and put dry moss on top.

First off, if the pot doesn't have drainage holes you should either put a smaller plant-pot with drainage holes in, or you'll need to be careful watering, 'cause you don't want to water log and drown it. keep the plant in sunlight, water it regularly, and maybe feed it plant food. I don't know if copper is bad for plants, but it's supposed to keep slugs away!
