Because we are made from cells

All cells have a purpose. If they don't do anything productive, they are not needed anymore. In the big picture, a cell's purpose is much more important than acting as small organizational pieces. They had their purpose long before they started working together in groups and building more advanced organisms. When alone, a cell's main purpose is to survive.

I could survive. I'm not much of a phone person. My high school generation didn't have cell phones at that age, so we learned how to use a land line. I'd actually rather converse by letters or email so I can actually have time to sit and think about what I want to say.

Um...

That's what we are...

A giant bundle of complex interconnected cellular matter...

Existence would be quite difficult if we were made of empty air...(which is ironic...since matter, which is what cells are made of, is mostly "empty space...")

Go figure...
