I have the option of buying a clean little 1994 Suzuki Swift for $700 from a friend who just bought himself a new Chevy Trailblazer. Is this a good deal? Are they reliable?

He said it's just like a Metro and gets scorching gas mileage. I'm 6'4" so would I have any problem fitting in this thing? He's driving it down from West Virginia this weekend so I'd appreciate any advice I can get.

The fact that he's driving it down to you is a good sign on the drivability, but I'd definitely take it for inspection by a mechanic prior to purchase. No question, any car in decent shape that runs is worth $700. Any car that old could be unreliable, try to find out how well its been maintained and what parts have been replaced in the past few years. For the price even if you don't like it you can easily resell it and not lose a dollar.

Yes, it is the same car as a Metro. They are typically pretty reliable and you can expect 35+ MPG on the highway. It is a pretty small car, so you may have some troubles at 6'4". 1994 was the last year for that body style and a lot of the little problems that it had were corrected for that model year.

Since, you are going for a second hand car, i advise u to twice-check various aspects of the car. However, see that u don't land in troubled waters once you have bought it. Nothing much can be done after the purchase, as you may have to cough up a sizeable amount for repairs and maintenance. And moreover for your height, look for something else that would save your neck . Anyways, if the options are few and you are really eager to collect as much information on maruti swift then visit the site called 'infibeam.com. This site has complete information not only on Maruti Cars but even on cars produced by other manufacturers.

Suzuki Swifts are reliable as long as they are maintained. The good news is you can take the entire car apart with a 8mm, 10mm, 12mm and 17mm wrench set. Parts for them are very inexpensive, and they are easy to work on.
