Hello! I graduate from college this Saturday and have a job interview for a 2nd grade teacher position next week. I was wondering if you could help me prepare for my interview...

What questions should I ask? I have been trying to come up with a list of questions to ask while at the interview but I know that I am forgetting a lot!

What questions should I be prepared to answer?

What should I bring with me?

Any other tips?

It's been awhile, but I remember being asked how I like working with a group, if I ever do something that is not in my plan book, what can you do to help low achieving students, how do you teach reading, discipline plan......

If you are interviewing for a class that is already in progress ask about the class. Are they with a sub now? How long have they had a sub? Does the school have a discipline plan you need to follow?

Good luck

One of the first things an interviewer asks is how you would handle problems that arise in class. For example: think about how you would handle a problem student. What would you do with a student who wouldn't pay attention? How would you motivate him/her? Would you call the parents? Speak with the Dept. Head? Also, what creative ideas do you have to spark the interest of kids in that age group? What are your special talents? Can you sing? Play an instrument? Lead in learning games? How will you engage the kids in the learning process? What are your strongest and weakest areas? Do you think kids this age should have homework? How much time should they spend on homework? In other words, picture yourself in the classroom and answer these questions. In addition, be prepared to speak about any experience you've had with children this age and tell about a way you solved a problem with the children. Good luck.

How do you see yourself five years from now?
How can you be an asset in this field?
Do you want to work alone or with a team?
What is your initial reaction when confronted with a stressful situation?

Don't show loose papers, put them in a nice folder.
Be organize
Wear clothes appropriate for the interview.

Remember , it's just an interview....But...."Chance Favors the Prepared Mind"...............

What is one of your proudest teaching moments? How would you motivate and engage unmotivated students? How can one maintain high acdemic standards and reduce failure? Do you feel comfortable/ what experience do you have dealing with parents? How would you contribute to the culture of our school beyond the school day? What is the role of empathy in the classroom/ Can a teacher be too empathetic? What do you find to be the most challenging aspect of teaching? What would inclusion look like in your classroom? That is all I can recall at the moment. Hope it helps!

Don't tell me that after 4 years of college you still don't know how to conduct yourself during an interview? This is sad.
