I have neons in with my betta but cardinal or glow lite tetras should be alright to.You should also get more than one cory as they do best in a group.I am not familiar with rummynose tetras but just make sure you don't get any fish know to n*p or they won't be able to resit your bettas pretty fins.

You should read this about cycling your tank and make sure to get a gravel a vacuum and do weekly water changes of 15-25 %,never totally empty your tank.

Cautiously mix fish with a betta. Some are fine with other fish and some hate anything else that moves. Quick moving fish are the best bet because they can outswim the betta if it goes nuts. Tetra's can be fin nippers but they are still a good choice. Easy to care for.

A 20 gallon tank should have no more than 20" of fish so you can do the math on that. The inches only include the actual body of the fish, not tails.

Cycle your tank before you put fish in it,it's a slow process and requires patience, but it is much better for your fish.
Then when you have your newly cycled tank running well, add the Cory cats, add five or six. The Corys are schooling fish like the Tetras, and will do much better in larger groups(they're also more fun to watch in groups). Wait a week or two for the cycle to adjust too the new fish, and then add one of the groups of Tetras(I'd go with the Neons next). In another week or two add the other group of Tetras, and then last put in the Betta(this is so he won't regard the entire tank as his territory).
The most important thing you can do for your fish is learn all you can about how to cycle a tank. Look up www.fishlesscycling.
Good luck and have fun with your fish.

don't put fish in with the betta that are 'fin nippers' (yes there are some fish that will nip at your betta baby's fins.)
I have two light colored tetras (I wanna say they are white shirts but they are more peach colored) and a pleco in my tank (I have a 3gal thou)

bettas have there own little personas....some are sweet as sugar and some are mean.
but like some people said here....nothing very colorful (that they might mistake for another male betta) Oscars are not a good choice (and neither is any fish that is aggressive. pet stores should have a little symbol on the tanks tag or something that tells you if the fish is aggressive or such.)
the MAJOR thing is ask a worker at the store, if the fish your purchasing can eat whatever food you're feeding your betta. believe it or not but some fishes can't eat betta food.

and a big no-no is goldfish/feeder fish! one if you're feeding your betta 'betta food' then you will kill the goldfish. two goldfish are just mean.

I would recommend the following to go with your betta.

(6) Glowlite tetra
(6) Cardinal tetras
(4) pygmy cory cats

The betta or fighting fish really shouldnt be put in with any other fish as it might kill them. Id stick with 1 or 2 of the same sort just to start of with....
