Okay, so I started taking birth control for the first time today. I woke up and found that I had started my period, so I chose a time to start taking it (3:00). The clinic I went to said to start taking it on the Sunday after my period started, but when I read the instructions for the birth control for myself, it said I could start it on the first day of my period. With the Sunday method, I would have to use another form of birth control for a week; with the "first day" method, I wouldn't have to use any other method.

I started "Yasmin" as my birth control. I am fifteen years old and no where near ready for a baby. I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right. Did I start it at the right time?

Also, I was wondering, when they say take it at the EXACT time, does it make a difference if you take it within 5-10 minutes after the exact time you started taking it?

I've always preferred to take birth control on the 1st day of my period instead of the Sunday method, just because it's more regular for me and because then I dont need to use other protection for the rest of that week. You can start it at any time you choose as long as you keep it the same and NEVER forget a pill unless you are on the placebo pills toward the end. They say EXACT time because if they didn't, some people would take them any time of the day and it would mess up the hormones bein administered to prevent pregnancy. If you take it within 10 minutes, it should work just fine

Yes, you are fine. The reason you don't need to wait a week is because your wait period is well, your period, and you're not ovulating because you're on your period. (That is why they want you to wait, to make sure you are not).

It is better to take it at the exact time, but it doesn't half to be perfect. You can skip a day and likely be okay (UNLESS you have a mini pill which is much more time specific). That's not saying you should do that, but that you don't have to freak out if you don't take it until 4:00 pm, etc. Many people set an alarm for it just so they remember. It's better to get into the habit of the same time every day, which is why a lot of girls take it in the morning or with a meal. (If you decide you'll remember a different time better, you can switch. I would gradually move it hour by hour towards the time you want).

Certain people are more sensitive to changes in the hours than others. If I skip one day or take it more than a couple hours late, I'll be fine, but my period won't be as regular. Keep in mind that you could very easily skip your period this month or have strange periods and nausea in the coming weeks. This is normal. You should still be fine. If you notice yourself getting depressed or if the nausea doesn't go away, talk to your doctor about switching to something else. There are tons of different varieties of the pill just because our hormones are so different.

You have about a one hour window for taking birth control if you are using it for contraceptives *sigh*...

BUT, you must take note that NOTHING is 100% effective against pregnancy except for abstinence.

You took it ok, you can start it the day of your period or the Sunday after it starts. The only reason they say Sunday is to make it easier on you because of the stickers and taking the pill.

Also, a piece of advice... order your refill during your next to last week of pills. That way you do not "run out" before you are due for your next pack.

hi, yes thats perfect way of taking it, you can take it up to 12 hours late without any problems at all. the only things i would ask though is why have you been started on yasmin- not to worry you but the progesterone hormone used in yasmin is more likely to make you form blood clots than other types. unless you have been prescribed yasmin for acne, i would keep taking it for the 1st month (all 21 active tablets)and then switch to another pill like microgynol or cilest. again, not wanting to worry you!
