I think part of his eccentric behavior dose come from his being a genius, but some of his actions go beyond Einstein like quirks. He takes very enormous risks most of the time based entirely on his calculated assumptions. A lot of people wouldn't have the nerve to do so even, if they were right as often as Dumbledore. The way he manipulates people like if they were pieces in a chess board, with himself and the people he loves most being no exception. His death was all part his plan, his preparing Harry to kill himself all along without Harry realizing until the very end, also just part of the plan! Then there's they way he let's his curiosity completely consume him, to the point he loses common sense and dose something as blatently stupid like put on the ring, forgetting the fact that it was very likely Voldemort would protect a Horcrux with a particularly viscous curse. So yes I'd definitely agree with Ron. ....One dose have to have their doubts about, someone who said: "After all to the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure"

He sure was mental. But a lovable and respectable nutcase all the same. I like him best in PS and CoS (and partly PoA) before he became serious in the latter books.

And no, I didn't have to think hard to get his explanations. But that would be because I'm older but nut necessarily smarter than you.

Edit: Don't worry if you don't have a clue at first, it's so much better to be nice than be an irritating smart-*** like i-am-me and receive so many thumbs down for being one.

Edit: goodvhoy, I AM NOT talking about me. I am talking about i_am_me who thinks Deedee and the others who didn't get Dumbledore's explanation lacking in intelligence unlike her. Did you like her implication then?

Everything he did and said, he did and said for a reason. It may have been confusing, but it made sense in the end. Harry understood because he trusted Dumbledore; Ron did not have any attachment to Dumbledore and could not understand.

At some times I think Dumbledore was crazy. But he could've been a genius, and there's a fine line between crazy and genius. I admit, Dumbledore has stumped me too in the books.

some people call it mental, i call it eccentric yet genius. but when dumbledore speaks, u realize what he's talking about becuz it almost alwayz ties into everything. but i did think he went a little looney in book 6,that's what make me love dumbledore, he keeps u guessing. but then i thought about it. Who knows? Dumbledore is a very unique and lifelike character, at least in my world! Perhaps he was a little crazy. Perhaps he wasn't. But no matter what his sanity is, if he's a nut, he's a pretty awesome one!

Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!
Lemon drop, anyone?

welll if you think about it the most brilliant minds in history were mental!!! Like, Einstein! He wore the same suit everywhere and his hair was messy!!! PPL now laugh and think "oh well that is his own signature look" but if you actually lived back then you probably would have though "This guy is CRAZY"

BY the way I LOVE HP!

I though he was the most intelligent character in the book. He might have been a little mental in Harry Potter and the half-blood prince.

I think that he was mental, but in a good way. All that knowledge and power had made him like that, and also his passion to defeat death. He was even too smart sometimes, but other times he made stupid mistakes. In the end, he was just a human with flaws, and I learned to accept him like that.
