"Hop-Frog" was a jester to a king, who wanted to avenge the injustices done to a girl. Montresor was a person in Rome who wanted revenge on injustices done to himself. Hop-Frog was savage in his revenge, because he caused the king and several courtiers to be bound, strung up, covered with a flammable substance, and then set on fire. Montresor lured his victim to a catacomb with the prospect of a cask (small barrel) of amontillado (sherry, strong wine). He chained his victim to a wall, and then began bricking him up behind the niche. It only dawned on the victim at the last minute what was happening. Hop-Frog, the girl, and Montresor all escaped to live happily ever after.
