A 55 gal is excellent! Also:

1. Non-adhesive shelf liner or reptile carpet for flooring (aka "substrate"). Do not use sand or other loose substrate as it can cause severe intestinal impactions.

2. Basking bulb with a reflector dome. You can use a regular household bulb for this. You want a basking temp of 100-105F, so wattage of bulb and distance from basking spot will affect this. Many people plug the heat bulb into a thermostat or dimmer switch to make adjusting temps easier.

3. A digital probe thermometer. Sold in garden shops as indoor/outdoor thermometers. Very accurate for measuring basking temps. Stay away from stick on or dial thermometers--they are very inaccurate.

4. A reptile UVB bulb. An absolute necessity for calcium metabolism. Use a Repti-glo 8.0 or Reptisun 10.0. UVB bulbs are expensive and must be changed every 6-8 months as they lose UVB potency while continuing to produce visible light for a long time.

5. A shallow bowl for the daily salad.

6. A misting bottle to mist him daily.

7. A rubbermaid container for bathing (once a week for adults, 3 times a week for young).

8. A log or other piece of "furniture" large enough to bask on.

9. A very small water dish which he may or may not use.

10. Crickets. Crickets need to be kept in a large container with a good gutload formula and a shallow water dish. Other insects such as superworms, phoenix worms, silkworms, etc. can also be fed. The insect size should be no larger than the space between the beardies eyes.

Calcium/D3 powder (NO phosphorus)

Multivitamin powder.

This will get you off to a good start. Don't forget a vet visit to check for parasites--very important with beardies! For more info read these two excellent websites:

Separate your dragons and your situation would be solved. they do no longer look to be meant to stay together except they're mating, that's plenty too early for a 4 month previous dragon, they dont attain sexual adulthood until around a million twelve months.
