I think it was sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and I got some on a cut. I washed it out with soap and cold water like my teacher told me to. It's now like 3 hours after the fact and it still hurts. Is this bad or is it completely normal after something like this happened?

It was one molar.

Well obviously my teacher wasn't thinking right at the time. I mean I know a base is basic and that putting more base on it isn't a great idea. But since she was standing right there when I was washing it off I figured I should just listen to her or I might get points off (which I can't afford to have happen). Anyway.. I washed my hands for like the third time and it's much better.

what concentration was it?
if it still hurts you should continue running cold water on it, probably better not to use soap since many soaps are also basic.
however it may be possible that it is just the cut still stinging.

If you do spill irritants on open wounds or eyes, the recommended minimum time to run under cold water is half an hour. Perhaps you didn't do this?

Did you run your cut in water for 15 minutes? And using soap might not have been a great idea, since NaOH is basic already and you're washing it with... more base. As long it's a low molarity, it should be fine

You should have run it at least 20 minutes under cold water.
You shouldn't have used soap! The water neutralizes the base.
My friend spilled some on her wrist but it was of high concentration 7.5M it burned for a really long time and the skin peeled off.
Fortunately we wear gloves. We were doing thermal energy, enthalpy potential reactions.

I wacked my hand hard on a Door today, and it still hurts a little, I think its normal.

Hope you read the MSDS ( material safety data sheet) provided from their you will find safety precautions and handling of the material...It really hurts and our skin readily absorbs it even with your bare hand...Kindly rinse it with running water (tap water). Please observed next time.
