Sorry to answer with a question but: Why does a country with so much oil want to pursue nuclear power? Very suspicious to me...Nuclear power is very very expensive technology that is only economically beneficial when used on a very large scale.

Again given the size and energy needs of the country, their huge oil reserves, it seems very suspicious.

The president of Iran claims the holocaust didn't happen, should the world trust this man with nuclear power when he clearly doesn't need it and wants it for one reason...to develop nuclear weapons to destroy Israel.

It would cost Iran more money to use nuclear power than to just use their abundant oil reserves. Logically they do not want nuclear power for power their only nuclear benefit would be weapons and they should not be allowed to obtain these. The international community and UN have agreed that Iran is a terrorist nation and they have stated on several occasions that they would eliminate Israel from the face of the earth. The world should not allow this.

Yes, there is no legal principle to stop a country from having nuclear energy or developing it. I think all countries should look for energy alternatives. Although Iran has enough oil to last another "100 years" (some idiot's answer), they are not naive to think it will last forever.

Yes, but under supervision from the Russians or the UN.

They have factions in their country that would gladly nuke Israel if they had the opportunity and we don't want Israel to get nervous and threaten a pre-emptive nuclear strike on Iran. That is essentially how we got into Iraq.

Given the fact that Iran is the largest state supporter of terrorism in the world and they have a psychotic dictator that wants to blow another country (Israel) off the face of the Earth, I would say NO. They shouldn't be allowed to rub two sticks together. By the way.....Russia offered to supply them with a means for nuclear power they could use for strictly peaceful means and they turned it down. Gee....I wonder why?

Technically, there is NOTHING in U.N. resolutions that prohibits them from pursuing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. And since they are a sovereign nation they don't need anyone's permission.

And it's a bit disengenuous of the U.S. to protest, seeing as just about every western country has their own nuclear power program. And the arguement that they might develop weapons is a poor one since the U.S. turned their back while India, Pakistan and Israel developed them.

Allowed by whom? All the west can do is apply sanctions. I don't think America has got the steam for another terrorist front.

I say leave them to there own. I'd love to see Iran develop on it's own without interference, but we all know the hawks won't allow that.

I don't think anybody wants more countries with nukes but if US was Iran we would have blown up Israel out of the face of the planet or at least that seem to be what some want for Iran.

Why wouldnt they be allowed...they are a sovereign country....nuclear energy and nuclear weapons are two different things, requiring completely different technology

Absolutely yes.
Iran will soon once again emerge as a generous, sophisticated nation of worldly people.
To try to stop any nation having such technology is pointless and hypocritical and helps to polarise normal people into thinking that there's some sort of conspirace against them.
They have energy needs like all other countries
