Hiccups are frequent, sudden contractions of the diaphragm muscle

Nothing needs to be done unless the child seems upset or the hiccups last longer than five or ten minutes.

Burping or taking a few sips of water will often break the cycle, if you want to try something. Or, you might offer your baby something to suck on.

Well my next door neighbors babie is a hiccup queen too. I asked her why she hiccups so much and she just said that it was normal for babies to hiccup that much. THe only person it really is annoying is us. And she says that it doesnt hurt the baby.

My son was the same...he had them all the time in my belly and he still gets them all the time now. He is also 5 months. The doctors say it does not affect the baby in fact it is more annoying to us then it is to them...

If you are still breast feeding, when baby gets the hicups put her on the breast if you are not still breast feeding you could give her about 10ml of cooled boiled water. (or formula if she has just fed and has any left) The swallowing of liquid changes babies breathing pattern therefore getting rid of the hicups. If she is to worked up to drink anything then you just have to be patient and wait till they go on their own

I know for a baby it's hard to try this because it took me FOREVER to do it with my son also, but I was always told that sugar helps, so I'd wet his pacifier and dip in in sugar and knock off the excess. It seemed to work most of the time. If it continues I'd mention it to her pediatritian though. Good luck.

I have a 10 month old and she use to do it all the time. Nothing seemed to help though. It really didn't bother her that much though. She outgrew it as time went on. Doesn't get them that much anymore. Good luck with yours.
