It helps. I grew up in San Diego and learned to surf when I was 5, but didnt start skating until I was 10. I think if you learn to surf, balancing on a skateboard will become a peace of cake. You can learn to shift you weight better, which will make learning to do a lot of tricks a lot easier. So, I would say that surfing skills do help a lot in skateboarding, but they arent necessary.

Out of a ripstick, longboard or skateboard the closest thing to surfing and snowboarding is the ripstick. it feels a lot like snowboarding (i havnt tried surfing so idk). they both use torsional flex to turn. the only thing is it takes a while to get used to riding it if u havnt done skateboarding or anything. And i sugest getting skateboard shoes 2 if u dont already have some cuz u need some help griping the board. Hope this helped

It couldn't hurt since skateboarding was developed by surfers who wanted to practice when the waves were flat. Skateboarding was originally called sidewalk surfing

no, but if going from surfing to skateboarding it does help a lot with balance and it's an easy transition

no. surfing and skateboarding are alot alike but skateboarding you have 4 wheels and it pretty-much just stays balenced. also surfing is WAY harder than skateboarding because you are on un-solid ground not cement
