what about a camping trip? men love that stuff right? you can maybe get him a fishing pole, a lantern, a pup tent or something else camping related for christmas.
Then maybe get a calender and tab a certain day that says "guys weekend: camping trip!"
then split the cost between you two of, gas, food, gear, camping fees.

I was going to suggest a camping trip, but someone already did. Camping is usually fairly inexpensive, so it could be a fun time.
Another option would be to get some tickets to a sporting event. We took my Dad to a baseball game for Father's Day, and had a great time together. If you don't live in a city where there's a professional team, perhaps the road trip and associated overnight in a cheap motel could be part of the package.

Okay, top cheap(ish) things I think appeal to all ages:
DVD interactive games - a good family game will encourage family time. £7-£15
Karaoke Machine - depends whether you are into singing and music! is a good laugh, all ages can participate £20 - 50
Board games - make your own opoly - Monopoly with a twist! around £25
Book a studio day at a pottery cafe - you can all make an item, and take it home with you - beleive me, very therapuetic from £15 each
Family membership to Local Wildfowl Trust ( or RSPB centre) These are fab days out, walks, sightseeing, bird/fowl seeing/feeding, picnics, etc, can be enjoyed winter or summer. We have one, and Me and my parents go alot, just to spend time together, is lovely day out. approx £65 p.a
Good luck, hope these were of help.
Have good xmas

Try toys for boys. I bought my hubby an air ship. Its a huge thing that inflates with the sun and carries them through the air. An excellentt way of bringing him and the boys together. And on bad days it might even carry im off altogether. A prospect that causes much amusement amongst the children!!

My brother, I, and our mother all went together last year for christmas and got Dad a chartered fishing trip on a near by lake for the whole family. It was so much fun. A little expensive but not too bad. Total cost for the whole family was $350 ish.
You could also schedule a Golf game together if you all golf.
If you all live in the same city, you could all sign up for the bowling league or something like that.
Those are all fun things to do together.

I don't want to be morose but my dad was 50 and I was 21 when he died...don't get him anything special just enjoy what time you normally have with him...have a Christmas BBQ and get him to chat about the old days, get those embarassing photo albums out, he'll love it!

How about a nice meal out if you enjoy each others company? Or a day trip to one of his most memorable places, maybe where he took you as kids? A bottle of champagne to celebrate before hand? Get the old photos out and reminisce. :Have fun whatever you decide.XXX

Meal out? possibly a few beers then a Family photo. Just the 3 of you. A lot of photo studios have offers on this time of year so should be pretty inexpensive.
