Free domains are not really possible since it costs money to register a domain. If you are willing to pay a nominal fee then http://www.godaddy.com would be your best option.
There are a couple of alternatives though, if you don't mind advertisement on your site Microsoft Office Live Basics offers a free domain http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officelive/FX101534261033.aspx The only catch is that it will include their logo and link to their service on your site. They are hoping to snag a large share of the market by offering a free domain, hosting and 500MB of storage. It will require a credit card to verify your age.
You can also visit http://www.dot.tk/ and register a free domain but it will end in .tk rather than .com.
You could also try a free Web hosting site like http://www.freewebs.com and then use http://www.freedomain.co.nr/ to get a free sub domain. It will redirect the URL to your site without a long difficult Web address.

Besides dot.tk there are also dot.ml and dot.ga as far as free top-level domains go (yeah, not exactly .com, but hey, it's free)! :D There are many more domains listed on the http://getfreedomain.name website. No "rewards" involved. :)

Actually, free domain exists. I have created several usign some techniques. You can check them bellow.
http://leetcontent.blogspot.com/2014/01/how-to-get-free-domains-for-free.html
http://leetcontent.blogspot.com/2014/01/another-7-methods-for-obtaining-free.html
I used 2 of many methods I downloaded at leetcontent. They really are a HQ guys. They claim that the put on survey just because the method(s) wouldn't get saturated. It's up to you what you're going to do with that, I take no responsibility for what you do with this!

It really makes a lot of sense these days to purchase your own domain name. Why use a domain name on someone else's website bringing visitors to their site rather then yours? Plus, free sites often stick advertisements onto your web pages.
Today you can purchase a domain name for less then $10.00 a year. Many places where you buy your domain name will throw in lots of extras like a free parking page, or pages, a blog, ads that make you some pocket change and more.
So grab your own piece of the internet pie and get your own domain. The only hard part is to think of a good name that has not already been taken.
When picking your domain name, try to limit the number of syllables used keeping it as short as possible. Avoid multiple dashes (one dash is acceptable) and try to include a keyword(s) that is relevant to your site's overall theme and content.
Good Luck!

There is no such thing, believe me, I've looked for years.... but, you can find relatively inexpensive ones at Godaddy.com. You can get a "member" domain name for free through sites such as Google and Yahoo, but they aren't very good if you want to do business. If you're planning on doing business, and you're worried about the cost of your domain name, then you are destined to fail because online business always takes an investment just like any other business.

You can get a small piece of the pie at Yahoo which functions that way for free. A full-blast domain name (the name that PRECEDES the dot) will cost. Yahoo supplies it at a good price along with its software to prepare pages on your computer. The pages you prepare have to be uploaded via Yahoo and replace those that are currently online. The software is pretty staightforward once you get the hang of it.

Do you need web or DNS hosting? If not, you could always use dynamic DNS (try dyndns.org or no-ip.com). You will have to use a predefined suffix but you can customize the prefix (example: this_is_my_box.dynalias.com where dynalias.com is a predefined choice and this_is_my_box is customized by yourself). This should work just fine depending on two issues:
1. you are running and maintaining your own servers
2. your ISP doesn't have a conniption that you're running your own servers
This is also a great option if you're a DHCP users since you'll never have to know your actual IP address at that specific time to access services on the host using the dynamic DNS.

I somewhat agree with Sam Adams...I haven't been able to find any FREE .com's,however there are several "FREE WEB SPACE PAGES". I found them while surfing for free inter-net advertising. You may want to try: thefreesite.com(find listings of other sites) or topcities.com(somewhat difficult to use) or the site I found to be relatively simple to use;1sweethost.com...If you'd like you can email me at my yahoo address and I may be able to give you a few more leads....All in all you have to shop around. This is the information age,ask questions and seek the answers...GOOD LUCK.
