It completely depends on the size of the child, but as a general rule, I found that my children always wore a size up from their actual age. So for a one year old, unless she is very tiny, I would get 18 months or 24 months. You may want the smaller size for something she will wear right now, but a larger one that may see her into spring and summer.
With an angel tree name, I realize you don't know much about the size of the child, sorry. I still would use the same guidelines. She could probably wear something 18 mos. for Christmas. If the parents really can't afford much, maybe they would appreciate something not terribly dressy, that she would be able to get more wear from. Wal-Mart has some darling little girl outfits, as does Burlington Coat factory. Maybe even a snow jacket?
Bless your heart for caring. It will come back to you many times over.

I would say 18 months to 24 months. When my daughter was 1 1/2 she was about to come out of her 18 month clothing. It also depends on the designer who makes the dress because sometimes they can run a little small or a little big. Good luck!

18-24 months. When gifting baby clothes, you always go one size up. Chances are, baby has enough to wear right this very minute, but will be needing the next size up shortly.

they usually wear a size bigger than their age. So 1 year old, 18 months clothes, 12 months if they are small and 24 months if they are chubby.

I would buy 12-18 months for clothes! I'd leave on the tags so it could be exchanged if the size is incorrect!
