in the first you can rearrange by dividing by 3 to get:
x=9/3
there fore x = 3
in the second you must again rearrange:
3x-5=7-x
3x+x=7+5
4x=12
x=12/4
there fore again x=3

This is very simple algebra. If you are having trouble, get tutoring. I tried to go step by step. Just remember that whatever you do to one side of the equation you have to do to the other side as well.
3x=9
so, 3x/3 = 9/3
x= 3
And
3x-5=7-x
3x-5 +x= 7 -x +x
4x -5 = 7
4x -5 +5 = 7 +5
4x=12
4x/4= 12/4
x=3

3x=9 can be written as
3A = 9, if you wish! Read this as: what should I multiply by 3 to get a 9? Answer is 3, right? To solve this,
3A = 9, div both sides by 3 or
A = 3. done.
3x-5=7-x, gather x's and numbers on the same side; note signs
3x + x =7 + 5, see how we transfer things? note signs. simplify
4x = 12. Again, ask: what do I multiply by 4 to get 12? Div both sides by 4, what is the answer?
done.

1)
3x = 9
divide both sides by 3.
3x / 3 = x
9 / 3 = 3
so x = 3
2)
rearrange the terms so that all the x's are on the left and all the numbers are on the right.
so add x to both sides:
3x - 5 + x = 7 - x + x
3x + x = 4x and -x + x = 0
so you get:
4x - 5 = 7
add 5 to both sides:
4x - 5 + 5 = 7 + 5
-5 + 5 = 0 and 7 + 5 = 12
so you get:
4x = 12
divide both sides by 4 (as in qu.1)
so:
x = 3

I know this type of math can get complicated sometimes. I did this last year. So if X=9 then everytime you see a X in the problem than you have to replace it by a 9. So if it is re-writen you will have:
3(9)=7-9
27=-2
So this means 27 is equal to -2. It's as simple as that.
Hope this helped,
Stephanie

x is an unknown variable, but can be solved by: moving the x to one side. divide 3 by both sides and you get 3 for the first problem. 3x/3=9/3
x=3
then just plug it into the seacond problem:
3(3)-5=7-3
4=4

For the first equation:
Divide the right side by three and get x = 3
For the second equation:
Add five to the right side and add x to the left side getting
12 = 4x then divide the left side by four getting x = 3.
Hope this helps!

Are you kidding me?? Plz tell me you tred this at least....
1. x=9/3 just divide the 3 to cancel it(what ever you do to one side of the equation you HAVE to do to the other, so divde second side by 3=9/3 or 3.
2. Just move the x's together and add them than divide again. should come out to 2

Ummm I dont really know what you are asking for, but x is a variable right? So if it was then x=3. I think thats the right answer.
