I have been on the BC pill for over eight months with no side effects until last month when I experienced breakthrough bleeding which I just attributed to the fact that I skipped the placebo pills and it is a tri phasal pill. However this month I did not skip my period but I am now experiencing cramping and bleeding this time much heavier just 1 week after finishing my period. I dont know if I should just wait it out because it could just be a side affect of the BCP or should I rush to the doctor? To add to the situation my DR is on Mat leave and there are no other female physicians available and I would prefer a female for this matter.
What should I do? has anyone else had this problem?

hi, if you skipped your placebo pills your womb will have built up a thicker lining over those 2 months (instead of the normal 1 month) which will take longer&be more painful(crampy)to shed. i wouldnt worry unless you have other symptoms like dizziness, nausea, raised temperature, headache, or sharp stabbing abdominal pains, which could signify an infection or ectopic pregnancy (did you miss any other pills?) if you just have whats like a heavy period with cramps then i would just wait it out (for a few days or unless it gets worse. (i am a medical doctor)

I don't think you can wait until your Dr. is back from maternity leave but you might be okay with a phone call evaluation to see if the doctor thinks you're okay or not. It could be the effects of the pill, and the breakthrough bleeding doesn't especially concern me (could be that you need to raise your dosage), but the second heavier period in addition to the breakthough bleeding is more to be concerned about.

By skipping the placebos you mean you jumped from one pack to another, right? Not that you just didn't take them (which wouldn't affect anything). That could really easily mean that your period is just all messed up from skipping. But again, it could be something else as well, so it's borderline, which is why'd I'd go with the phone call and get your doctor's advice before scheduling the appointment.

Why don't you call your doctor's medical practice and at least talk to another doctor. They might be able to help you without having to see you. I personally think it's just a side effect of the pill, but you never know. Ask a professional.

Its normal, that's what happens when you try to trick your period.

I did that, and it was heavier, and crampier, and it was a pain in the butt to get back to a regular cycle.
