Simply because of much controversey that mixes with it. Back around the 1930s it was stated that it was what gave black people the idea that white people were bad. Also because they say it causes sicknesses(but in all truth they never had clinical and hard facts on the subject).Another reason would be is because it can be taxed and also some say because its a cheap alternative, medical companies would go out of buisness. The reason tobacco and beer isnt illegal though is beacuse it cant get you "high". Also sucking in helium from ballons kills more braincells. By the way ive never done drugs are majihuana soyou could say my views are completly non-bias.

tobacco and alcohol can be regulated and taxed by the government. Marijuana cannot. This is the same reason alternative fuels are not being used today for cars. The government gets too much from taxing oil. How would they get that tax from those who drive battery operated cars (they do exist)?

Because when Prohibition was rescinded, only alcohol and tobacco had powerful lobbies in Washington. Marijuana was left on the list.

Because the tobacco and alcohol industries lobbied to stop it in the 20s and 30s just like when GM, Ford,Chrysler and Firestone got together and shut down all the street cars we had.

It is easy to grow pot. Harder to make tobbaco and alcohol.

Therefore the government can't tax marijuana, because it is to easy to grow and dry. The other two you have companies making cigs and beer. The gov't can tax those heavy.

The question should be why isn't alcohol and tobacco illegal and that is because of money and power.

Because the breweries, distilleries and tobacco companies gave more money to politicians than the marijuana farmers.

It was made illegal during the depression..... befor the depression hit work was plentiful and large numbers of workers came from Mexico to harvest crops, the labor was welcomed.....when the depression hit and jobs became scarce, the state of texas was looking for a way to deport the mexican workers......the workers tended to smoke pot...soooo....texas pressured the federal govt to outlaw pot....they were then able to arrest the mexican workers and deport them for drug offenses.

Because marijuana can cause serious damage to your brain extremely easy and it takes less time to get addicted to. Alcohol and tobbaco have bad effects and are also addicting, but it takes a while longer to have those effects and egt addicted to.

marijuana makes you paranoid, and then when you're not trying to be paranoid from it you make bad decisions just cuz you think that you're being paranoid. like suppose that you thought some one was out to get you, and you discard that thought cuz you think it's all in your head cuz you are paranoid about all those other little things. it affects your reasoning!
