If it was just a few spots and you did not even have to use a maxi pad or it did not even fill up a pantyliner i would not take that as being my period.

Fertility books and websites say to use the first day of full flow, not spotting.

You should also look at your Cervical Mucus, so you can see when you're about to ovulate instead of just using your BBT to find out that you have ovulated in the past 24 hours.

Don't just assume it's day 14 of a 28 day cycle. That's very atypical of the majority of women. It certainly could be the case for you, but it's better to look at your fertility signs.

I would not count spotting, because the body does a slight natural cleaning sometimes before and after your menstrual cycle. So count the first real day you experienced your period.

When my OB/GYN put me on Clomid...she said NOT to count the spotting days...the first day of bleeding would be day one. I ALWAYS spot a day or two before...and since Clomid requires specific timing...I had to find out.

ALSO...she said NOT to count it as day one if it starts after 5 or 6 pm. Count the first FULL day as day one. That is what I was told.

Yep I would! Keep in mind with the calendar use the day before and after as your exact day of ovulation because they can be wrong!
