pubic hair serves to wick excess moisture away from the skin, to maintain a good pH balance. Shaving the pubic hair leaves you prone to skin infections and overgrowth of yeast.

It has a number of functions; here are a few:

1) It is a sign of sexual maturity. Women know that a man with pubic hair is old enough to have sex and father a child.
2) prevents chafing, so keeps you more comfortable
3) provides warmth in cold weather and helps air circulate to keep you cool in summer.
4) Most important, keeps air circulating to prevent possibly dangerous infections, both fungal and bacterial, which thrive in moist areas with poor air circulation. These infections can also cause foul odors, even if they are not yet established enough to cause a rash.
5) can stimulate the clitoris during sex.

Trimmed hair can allow some air circulation, but the blunt tips can irritate both your skin and your partner's skin. The naturally tapered ends of untrimmed hair are silky and don't poke. Natural hair is the healthiest and most comfortable for you and your partner.

I'm not sure what you mean by a normal reaction, but pubic hair is there to basically keep your area clean. The hair traps dust and whatever, but there are really no health problems associated with shaving your pubic hair.

Pubic hair helps to trap your sexual scent (i.e. pheromones).

I'm curious - what exactly do you mean when you say you're "not having a normal reaction"? What kind of reaction were you expecting? All you did was shave your hair off...
