USING THE PAID VERSION OF LIMEWIRE DOES NOT MAKE THE DOWNLOADING AND SHARING OF COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL LEGAL!
26,000 people have already been threatened with lawsuits for using P2P file-stealing programs such as Limewire.
People DO get caught stealing and "sharing" copyrighted "stuff" using P2P filesharing programs such as Limewire, Bearshare, Kazza etc and torrents, and face huge fines. Don't steal stuff if ya can't afford the fine.
People as young as 12 years old get busted.
"The music industry has turned its big legal guns on Internet music-swappers — including a 12-year-old New York City girl who thought downloading songs was fun."
"Brianna LaHara said she was frightened to learn she was among the hundreds of people sued yesterday by giant music companies in federal courts around the country."
"I got really scared. My stomach is all turning," Brianna said last night at the city Housing Authority apartment where she lives with her mom and her 9-year-old brother."

" Jammie Thomas makes $36,000 a year but says she's not looking for a handout to pay a $222,000 judgment after a jury decided she illegally shared music online and did it on purpose...Record labels have sued more than 26,000 people they accuse of sharing music online in violation of copyright laws."

2. NEVER disable your firewall(s) in order to make a game, a web cam or some program work, it is a major no-no. Your computer can be attacked or infected with worms and viruses in minutes!
Learn how to properly configure your firewall, but never disable it, even for a minute. A firewall is there for a very good reason: to protect you from hackers!
Firewall is your friend, it is not your enemy!
Good luck.

You can disable the XP firewall or stop the service but that's like taking the lock off your front door and putting up a sign "Come and get it...".
A better approach is to find out what ports Limewire wants to use and open them (and just those ports).
Just using Limewire is dangerous. If I were you I would invest in Virtual PC (or equivalent) and run it in a VPC that insulates you and your host system from the nasty stuff that Limeware downloads are notorious for installing on your system.

Paying for Limewire does NOT make it legal to pay for copywrighted music. Downloading copywrighted music is ILLEGAL. You just paid for a faster and more reliable limewire. Anyway, to disable the firewall, go to firewall under control panel. Pretty self explanatory.

Look for the software firewall you have and turn it off. If you have no software firewall it could be that you have a router that is getting in the way. You don't get rid of a router, you just will need to set up port forwarding on it: http://www.portforwarding.com
