Colace is a stool softener, its recommended for chronic constipation. It doesn't act to cause griping or cramps so you should get quite a normal urge to go.

Its still probably safest to take anything like that at a weekend when you have time to deal with things

It depends on the kind of laxatives you use. There are very gentle laxatives that give you overnight relief and do not cause diarrhea. There are also more harsh ones. I recommend just drinking hot prune juice or apple cider and then a full glass of water. Try sit-ups too. It is a slower process, but it works.

Uggh, laxatives are awful things. Def. don't use them unless you are seriously backed up because they are very unpleasant when first taken and even if you have nothing left to give they will keep working.

Most of them take quite awhile to work, up to 24 hours, so it is difficult to predict when you're going to have to go. I would try and save it for the weekend, because even if you don't have to go that many times you do need a longer than average break and will have a sense of urgency when you need to go.

Again, make sure you really need them. I had to take them recently for an intestinal infection and they were just as unpleasant as the infection itself.

It might be a little dangerous. Instead of laxatives, drink a small glass of prune juice or eat a few prunes. This will move your bowels naturally.

MY DAUGHTER IS ON LAXATIVES AS SHE HAS SEVERE CONSTIPATION, THE THING I FIND WITH THEM IS SHE OPENS HER BOWELS AT ANY TIME OF THE DAY OR NIGHT, THEY CAN ALSO CAUSE GRIPING TUMMY PAIN WHICH IS UNCOMFORTABLE, BE CAREFUL. I WOULD AGREE WITH WHAT EVERYONE ELSE SAYS TRY PRUNE JUICE, EXTRA WATER AND PROBABLY ADDING MORE FIBRE IN YOUR DIET. IF YOU STILL HAVING DIFFICULTIES THEN I WOULD ADVICE YOU TO TALK TO YOUR GP OR PHARMACISTS. GOOD LUCK BUT THINK TWICE ABOUT LAXATIVES ANY SORT.
