I have a 2001 BMW 3 series. Both left and right turn signals have started intermittenly blinking fast for he first 2 - 6 blinks and then resumes the normal tempo. The fast blinks are similar to when a bulb is out but then corrects itself within a few seconds. The indicators that a bulb is out do not come on and the bulbs all seem okay. It will often do this several times a day but not everytime the blinker is used. Anyone know what could cause this?

Sounds possibly like the flasher going out.
Typically a part that costs less than $10 and found in the fuse box/panel.

Everyone asking a question under the bmw section already has a bmw so there is no reason to dog them out.......(the fact is they are a lot better cars than the pieces of crap the US manufacturers make)

The speed of flash is controlled by the resistance in the circuit. The LED consume lower current so the circuit thinks the bulb has blown. I don't know the solution but flashing too fast is an MOT fail in UK.

It is alerting you that your blinker is going to burn out soon.

the flasher unit is going bad.. replace it and it will be fine..should be near a fuse panel..
