I don't know if you'd consider this rock, but I always loved "Papa's Got A Brand New Pigbag"... by Pigbag

... a few weeks ago I was in Toronto, and I made a point of going to the intersection of Danforth & Pape, only because that is the name of a section in 'La Villa Strangiato', probably my favorite instrumental of all time. Rush from their inception up to the album 'Signals'... well, what can I say? They made some great stuff afterwards... but that was their prime in my opinion.

I know I'm missing some others that I love, but my colleagues above have done a great job of naming many I consider excellent rock instrumentals.

One's you haven't mentioned?

Orion- Metallica
Sparks- The Who
Underture- The Who
I consider Whipping post- Allman Brothers at fillmoure east to be instrumental, just cause of the super- long solo.
Along with Whipping Post, Led Zeppelin's Moby Dick has a great instrumental solo.
Supersonic Guitars in 3-D- Los Straitjackets
