Your not allowed to sleep on top of a electric blanket because of the cores inside of them. they have electric heated mattress pads.which are made to lay on.An electric heated mattress pad is a great way to keep yourself warm during the winter. It allows you to decrease your room temperature at night, saving you money on your heating bill. The heated mattress pad keeps you warmer than an electric blanket, due to the fact the heat moves up into your body, rather than into the air, as with an electric blanket. If you are tired of being cold in bed and want to climb into a warm and cozy bed, then an electric heated mattress pad can be just the thing for you.

While I have not heard of electric blankets being harmful, except for the inherent shock or fire hazard, there have been concerns about high voltage transmission wires having an effect on people with its electromagnetism. The heater wires in the blanket operate at much lesser voltage that the high tension lines, but, they are so much closer. Something to consider.....

I don't think it's a good idea to sleepon top of a electric blanket turn it on before bedtime on high and when you retire turn it down near the lowest setting.

Yes you can. The new ones are made with flame retardant material. I recently started sleeping with one that is similar to a mattress pad. It works out great because my boyfriend likes to sleep with the window ajar; he gets too warm at night.

As long as its an up to date blanket that's designed to be slept on it should be OK to sleep on.
