When visiting a place for the first time, researching what to do and where to eat is helpful. Especially when you’re unsure of where to go or what to pack. What do you want to see? Let us know what you think makes the ideal destination video

There are many things that I would love to find out about a destination before I go there, but for a video, I think you really only need these things:
-Name of city (lol), state/province, country
-(how to correctly pronounce the name of the city)
-distance from major cities in my country (USA, for example)
-location on the globe (where in the world, climate/weather)
-Top 5-10 things to do, see
-Top (up to) 5 places to eat (based on price/value, quality, experience, etc.)
-Top (up to 5) places to stay (again, based on price/value, quality, experience, etc.)
-Any (up to 3) worthwhile out-of-town adventures from the destination
-Reasonable budgets: one for expensive, all-inclusive trip; one for average travelers (perhaps family budget); one for cheap, money-saving travelers
-Local currency and exchange rates with major worldwide currencies (e.g. USD, Euro)
-Culture (what locals recommend, language(s) spoken/understood, dishes (as in meals) unique to the location, etc.)
-What they sell there that's worth bringing home (differentiate between what can go with your carry-on, what must be checked, and what would have to be shipped seperately)
-any precautions travelers should take (awareness of pickpockets (e.g at SJO), etc.)
-How to get there (your flights there and their respective daily/weekly frequencies, average price, etc; also, show codeshare/SkyTeam member flights), average travel fare between airport and hotels/city center
-

If I am Delta Airlines I would not want to clutter my video with details about what to pack and do. You will loose impact.
I am a serious amateur photographer who has traveled extensively all over the world. Sometimes a photo of the famous WWII "Death Heads Bridge" in Thailand taken at a dramatic angle against a spectacular purple sunset (it is a very ordinary looking bridge in reality) will do much more than details of packing which will only be read after the money has been taken. Stick with the tried and true emphasizing your Airline. Leave the small non-glamorous items for "The Lonely Planet" and the like Travel Book series.
In fact for a tip you may look at why "The Lonely Planet " series sticks in my mind over the hundreds of others. They cover lesser traveled destinations that competitors do not bother with. In other words try covering your lesser known destinations, sights, and suburbs in a photographically spectacular fashion. This will make your video more original and attention getting.
Your video will of course show the sights . Limit the words and use music. And of course add restaurants and places of entertainment. If your above question as stated was that important, they would be on a package tour. Impact sells.

An ideal destination video will give the audience a combination of what is new or adventurous and what is familiar. Why? Most people go on trips to experience new sights, tastes, sounds, feelings and so on. However, because most of us are creatures of habit, we also need to know that somehow, someway, we will still be able to be connected with "home" when we are away.

For instance, the 08 Olympics will be held in Beijing. To any American who has never been there but are going to the 08 Olympics for which ever reason, we can only imagine what feelings such travelers must go through from now until they actually arrive in Beijing. So, what if Delta brought the world to us and showed the audience that, yes, Beijing is a different world but, in many ways, downtown Beijing looks, feels, and sounds very similar to any other major cities around the world. How about "fly with Delta, we bring or let us bring the world to you"? Hey, this is my slogan. If you like it, we will talk terms and yes, I will keep a copy of it.

Otherwise, this is my approach.

I just want to see something that no one else has. What makes a destination unique and special is the rarity of it. Now I went to Hawaii earlier this summer, but I ate at "off the map" places that were more skewed toward locals than to tourists. A few years back I went to China. Why? Because no one I know personally could say that they had set foot on the Great Wall, or for that matter, ever visit a communist country. Do I speak Chinese? Nope - I just went because I like to go against the grain. Where do I want to go in the future? Iceland, Brazil and Prague. Why? I haveen't seen them in every movie or tv show, no one goes there, and it's an unusual destination with food I haven't tried.

I travel mostly on business (about 100k miles per year) and the road warriors have a different mindset than the vacation traveler. Domestic travel compared to international is a big difference as well. So if possible an interactive type video might be rral practical. But here is how I would do it:
1.) Preparing for your trip (clothes, passport info, immunizations, credit card tips, phone numbers (lots of people dont know how to make international calls)
2.) How do I get out of the airport and get where I want to go (ie;BART in San Fran, METRO in DC, private car hired ahead of time Rio, Hyderbad) plus getting around locally.
2.)Cover 2 districts one for business and one for vacation with 2 hotel choices in each.
3.) Dining options can be tough in some parts of the world... just include how to get there!!
4.) include a one day trip that brings out something special just outside the city or a few hours away in the part also include some info about local culture and any customs.
Did you know that when you order a coffee regular in LA and New you get something different? (Cream and sugar in NY and black in LA!)

What makes a great destination video? Well, I'd think it would include the assurance that all passengers actually get to their intended destination. Unfortunately, this hasn't always been the case with Delta.

Why would an experienced pilot take off on a runway too short to accommodate his commercial jet -- rather than the longer one he told air traffic controllers he planned to use?

That was the fate of Comair Flight 5191, which crashed in August 2006 one Sunday morning about half a mile past the end of a runway at the Lexington airport, killing 49 of the 50 people onboard.

The Delta Air Lines commuter flight to Atlanta, Georgia, had been cleared to take off from the 7,000-foot Runway 22 at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport. But the pilots decided to use runway 26 - which was half the length.

Perhaps Delta would do well to worry more about which runway they're planning to use for take-off before they spend any more time on destination videos.

The ideal destination video, would have to be about the people, the eats, the hot spots of where to go or hang out, etc. How much the trip is going to cost, the taxis, the planes and so on.
Also, you should include: Top 10 places to eat, hot spots or hotels. Prices list; showing from low to high range of money.
If it is a family friendly destination or a college age destination or romantic getaway destination.

First have a Welcome Message by a Person of that City and or Country have them tell everyone about their city and or Country's History .
Let them show Destinations Recreational Activities ,Country sites ..Temperature 's at the different times of the year .Attractions ..Restaurants ,where to get good and affordable food .Affordable Hotels or Motels .Mention specialty foods that are available if traveling to a Foreign Country or here in USA and most of all the Hospitality of its People and their culture as well as language.Close the Video in all languages with the words .Enjoy your stay at the destination .Delta hopes you have a great time . Thank you for giving Delta the privilege to take you to the Destination of your choice .

I'm a person who also love to go on traveling and venture the world, to gain more knowledge about different cultures and societies, so pretending I'm as a tourist I would love to find out more about where I'm going to go, and would be consider it a real amazing trip, so i would know if there any fine restaurants that have long popular and what special feature and foods that they have. Attraction and stay place is also very important, because most of the time people go on a vacation generally they going with their family so i would think that get more details and prices from there would be very necessarily, so then they can calculate their budget for their entire trip. I would love to visit England or Scotland, because they have really nice landscape and all that, but thing i would see more is about their culture in everyday life, so i know how to deal with different situation when i visit there.

There is no one destination video that has universal appeal. An overview of the geographical location is helpful, but there are new travelers and trekkers out there who are looking for something more adventurous than a swim up bar. Old photography in brochures and on websites is terrible, a turn off.

Since air transportation is such a hassle these days, solid information on arrival and departure would be the most helpful when promoting an airline. Too many angry epople in airports.

I have been researching Video and Audio handheld devices, most survey answers wants these for free or very very cheap.

Information wise, the content needs to have the following:

1. place information - size, shape, population, etc
2. history or historical informations - sights to see
3. cultural facts about the place - food, traditions,
4. trivia
5. streetsmart stuff - what to do/not do for the location

folks wants this delivered in MTV style, and partly documentary style but not BBC type documentary. those surveyed wants a mix of internet info with side bars and bubbles plus fisheyes for stuff to see.

The survey I did numbered 67 respndents from 1000 folks asked. Most dont want to answer. So a destination video inside a plane cabin can be hardsell, but it would a few following for the initial time it plays. Eventually if they find it usefull, there could be a lot more viewers and even subscribers. I believe travellers, like those who are in transit, would find such information usefull.
