Brand new hard drive, came with sound card...can't get any sound.....supposed to have built in speakers and even when I plug in my old speakers I still can't get any sound.....Am I supposed to even need speakers?
No sound whats so ever.......any suggestions or remedies besides throwing it out the window?

It sounds like you recently had to replace the hard drive, then, you installed a non-Acer version of Vista. That's the problem.

Did you burn the Acer Recovery disks (they were on the old hard drive) as described in the Acer User Manual? You need them to install the "Factory" version of Vista on your new drive. That's where all the required drivers are.

If not, call Acer tech support, you need Acer to send you replacement disks.

Hard disk drives don't come with sound cards. They are just storage devices. If you need sound then you'll need sound hardware. If you bought a desktop computer it may not be sound capable out of the box, but 99% of them are. Desktop computer's built in speakers are often only used for system beeps - you will need to attach external speakers. Laptop computers should all work out of the box (unless they came without an operating system), simply turn the volume up.

i am using an acer with vista right now. got it yesterday and its gr8. no problems with sound tho :P
