Yes it has for many reasons.
Political correctness taken to the extreme means you must curtail free speech or traditions in order not to offend ethnic minorities, or those of alternate lifestyles.
Take Christmas for example. We cannot celebrate in full the birth of Jesus. Where we used to see manger scenes they are no longer allowed. Most ethnic minorities I know are not the least bit offended & though they are of different religious persuasions have no objections to our celebrating our traditional religious festival in full. They themselves enjoy the season as much as we do & are a bit bemused by this so called political correctness.
Consequently the true meaning & all the goodness this message of Love can bring to us is lost. Many school kids don't even know who Jesus is much less what He stood for. How catastrophically sad. What a loss to our society. When you take the goodness away what are you left with?
We blindly follow Americanism though it's clear to all this is a self destructive route. America has become an incredibly violent & decadent society over the decades (or more) & we are headed rapidly in the same direction. Our idiotic politicians embrace the 'special relationship' though it's obvious to the world that Bush is a complete nincompoop incapable of governing at any level. It's incredulous how he has remained in power for two terms. By sticking so close to their policies & following like a loyal poodle we have made our country a target for terrorism. It appears our politicians prefer to obey the voice of Washington over their own people. And for this we are used & receive nothing in return.
We are becoming a survelience society with cameras everywhere creating an atmosphere of suspicion & tension.
Instead of giving our children proper moral teaching we are content to allow them to play or watch violent computer games & movies. And then we install cameras to hopefully deter them from anti-social behaviour caused in part by this media. The so called role models or those who should be, those in the public eye, are becoming increasingly immoral or corrupt. Big business will stop at nothing to increase profits.
Profits are more important than moral values, far more. We do business with China for profit. We DO NOT care about their human rights record. We do business with Myanmar. We
DO NOT care about human rights abuses. As long as big business makes a profit these people can do as they please. That is the simple fact.
There have been a number of political scandals & the general feeling among the populace is that politicians cannot be trusted. A reputation they themselves have worked hard to earn by their lack of concern for the poor & needy while pretending to be concerned. Their backing of high profile concerts in aid of abolishing poverty have resulted in no concrete action being taken or very very little though it is within their power to do so. We all see through it. Why can't they??? Their constant stream of rhetoric is becoming obnoxious to the extreme.
We are faced with continual high fuel prices causing considerable hardship for some, particularly large families & pensioners, not to mention motorists & they do little or nothing to improve things.
Could it be because we have to finance wars we have no business fighting against people we know little or nothing about?
Could it be because some politicians have vested interests in business & so make decisions that favour those interests as some have said?
Whatever, the message of Christmas, the moral teachings & message of universal Love & salvation have all but gone & that void is being filled with an hedonistic desire for materialism & wealth on all levels that is destroying our society & corrupting our children & stripping us of our sense of decency & care for others.
Oh yes Britain has lost it's way & sadly it doesn't look as if it will find it again. God help us all.

Britain has been broken since the 1960s ended. She has quickly lost ground in her stability and she is not going to be getting back up on her feet for a very long time. With the influx of migrants making the "multicultural" mark on the land her identity has changed and all that she has right now is the traditions of a past age. They too are being rent apart from the multicultural population and the future of England will see a whole new identity.

So you've lost the right to beat your wives and use the pounds, shillings and pence system. I don't think many will be crying over that.
Every society evolves. Perhaps you are wishing to cling on to a few old bits - it doesn't mean that the rest of the country has to. I suggest that you get a few DVDs of old programmes you liked watching as a child and just immerse yourself in nostalgia.
It's a lot less safer than harrassing people who aren't British, just for the sake of it.

Great Britain has not lost is heritage.........that suggestion is plain silly. Heritage is what was past.
England ...well, that is another thing altogher............out of the rest of the UK ..........Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales........England has never been allowed to have its own identity. Proud Celts..........but the English are supposed to accept all, embrace diversity, and shut up whilst we become the minority culture in our own part of the UK.
I do not have a problem being part of a multicultural society but I do wish that to be English was not perceived to being somehow an underdog.

Yes. And it has gained as well.

Examples of lost heritage are those that speak Cumbric http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumbric_language as well as some regional foods. (When is the last time you had a Norfolk Dumpling?)

In the past, our heritage involved people knowing their place, not going to university unless you came from a proper background. You want a return to that?

Throughout history, we have lost heritage and identity and gained it as well.

Oh heritage and identity. so can you think of four things that are of British heritage. Santa Clause NO thats american. Christmas trees. NO that is German only brought to Britain in the 19th century. so there two things british people think of as part of their heritage and they have not been so for very long either. a few generations. So who knows having fish for christmas dinner may well be one in a generation are two.

Yeah, i have said time and time again on here what i think but you get stupid no brained PC people who seem to not give a toss about the situation we are in with immigration issues and the like. Would they be as keen to give a thumb down to people who (totally have as much right) as the "minority" to voice their opinion if they were affected by attrocities, losing their job to a foreigner (because its good for economy) or having their child expelled from school because of a cross they were wearing offended Muslim pupils? Or even forced to pay a lot of money for an I.D. card because it would be easier to control the influx of illegal immigrants when the damage has been done? Our ancestors over the centuries fought for our nation and it has all gone pete tong in less than a lifetime.

I don't think it has. Yes we've lost some things, like doffing our caps to our social superiors. But we've gained other things like human rights. Still a lot to do, social cohesion is terrible and trust is something else we've lost in one another.

When you have an open door policy and bow to appease the radicals and top that off with socialized medicine, you can't sustain yourself. The US is going that direction and will be joining Britain within the next ten years. That is the plan of Hillary and Obama and it will happen. Sad, isn't it.
