If you even consider asking this question - take it to the shop. It's brakes you are talking about, and not done right you may not be the only one to get killed.

I'm sure you mean "brake pads" / "brake shoes". If this is not the case, go to an expert.

Well, is pretty simple to replace the brake pads and/or shoes, if you are a more or less experienced on other cars.

The ABS is not a matter ot concern.

Front pads can be replaced with a #8 wrench, an Allen wrench, a big screwdriver (for pulling the caliper inside of its case), and brake fluid.

Rear shoes are similar to those used by GM cars from 1950's on.

I recommend you the Chilton 28322 book "GENERAL MOTORS CAVALIER/SUNFIRE 1995-00 REPAIR MANUAL.

A brake job is not a difficult job, but safety is of highest concern. Being convicted of manslaughter is not worth a few bucks saving in not knowing how to do a brake job properly.

That said, always perform all work in a safe environment with jack stands supporting the car. Your life is not worth it if you don't do secure the car properly.

Instructions on how to perform a brake job with pictures for the cavalier can be found here:
