It's just a traditional thing to say. You really only need to take in 200-500 extra calories a day to support the pregnancy. Back in the day women didn't worry about how much weight they gained. Now it's recommended not to gain more than 25.

Peaple use pregnancy as an excuse to eat! My doc always told me to eat healthy, well balanced meals when I was pregnant and that is exactly what I did. I did have an occasional slice of cake or ice cream but hey, I deserved the treat!!!! I only put on 25 lbs with my pregnancy and had a happy healthy baby boy!
Good luck to you and continue to eat healthy!!!!

Because pregnant women need to eat more calories. Lots of pregnant women use it as an excuse to pig out.
If you want to say no to something, but want to be polite about it, just blame it on the baby. Say, oh, the baby doesn't like that. Or to your friends, say, the baby doesn't like chocolate. Say it gives you gas, or makes the baby too active or whatever. Pregnant women get to make all sorts of crap up.
My sister blames the baby for everything and she gets massages, steals my food right out of my hand, etc. I'll be about to take a bite of a croissant and she'll just take it and say, "Oh, sorry, the baby REALLY wants that!" It's hard to get mad at her, too.

One of the first things my Ob told me was Don't Eat For Two! It is not healthy and you do not need that many extra calories. They recommend 300 extra while pregnant and 500 while breastfeeding. Stay strong and don't worry about what others say.

Because they think they now have someone who can eat a lot with them and keep them from feeling guilty!
If you eat for 2 you will be the size of 2 after the baby is born.
I agree I got tired of hearing that as well.

This is just a poor excuse to eat unhealty and eat more junk food! I believe it is a bunch of bull.... This is my second pregnancy and i eat enough but do overinduldge myself!!! There is no reason to eat a whole tub of icecream then be like "i am eating for 2" ...B.S. i tell ya Also you ever notice when a women or someone says that it usually to do with junk food its never like 'oh i can eat this whole bag of baby carrots since i am eating for 2".. It is always something unhealthy like a few xtra slices of pizza or a whole box of bon bons !!

Eating is about quality of food as much as quantity - so you were right, especially since a bacon cob sounds disgusting.

you are pregnant and you are having to eat for two bodies now but if you do not want it then don't eat it if but 16 weeks is a bit early I think for cravings to start more along the lines of 18-20 weeks then when the cravings hit go for it and don't look back :)

No your not, the eating for two thing is not true, The truth is if you act like you are eating for two you are just adding weight to your own body that the baby does not need.

well they basically mean your going to be fat anyway why not have some? i know how you feel, just because your going to gain weight does not mean you wish to be huge. the average person puts on about a stone in weight due to pregnancy but a lot of women who "eat for two" gain more
