Mostly old novels,some text books,do it yourself stuff,even some old bibles...seems a shame to throw them out

Post this on craigslist.org (under Toronto)

you'll be able to get a lot of people taking things for free.

Or donate to Value Village or Goodwill.

Where I live (in Colorado) the public library will take them, and if they can't use them in the Library itself, they sell them at bi-annual fundraisers, or leave them in the entry to the library, and you just (honor system) give them a dollar a book when you find something you like. The library gives us a letter, which we then use for our taxes, to claim we have donated x amount to a charitable cause, and you can save a little on your taxes. Don't know how Canada works with that part, but I'll be the Library will take them for you.

Try used book stores or church rummage sales.
Some drop-in centres like Salvation Army can use them.
At the very least, re-cycle the paper if nothing else.
